For those who like to pre-order it's up at £10.47 now http://www.tescoentertainment.com/st...rtin/8:662689/

£11.99 @ Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B002XT38A0

Extras:

* Commentary with George A Romero, Tom Savini, Michael Gornick and Donald Rubinstein
* Making Martin: A recounting documentary
* Notes on Martin by George A Romero
* US Theatrical Trailer

I wonder why it needs 2 discs. Nothing official yet http://www.arrowfilms.co.uk/index.ph...6dfde144b5a5d1

The newest thing the British censor has listed is 2006 "MARTIN [Slightly extended version]".

Strange, it's disappeared off Amazon.

Makes Tesco's price look even better then.

That's assuming it'll actually arrive from Arrow.

I'd buy Martin if it came out on blu-ray! I hope they release it in the US soon.

Arrow confirmed that the source material wasn't up to snuff for HD so the SE DVDs the best we're getting.

Large rear box photo here

I picked this up sealed dirt cheap somewhere. It's a lovely package all in.

It's the best the film has ever looked too for me.

Great link and very interesting interview which maybe give people (and me) a better idea of why there's no Blu-ray for now.

Aw that's too bad. I can't even buy the Special Edition DVD because my TV won't play PAL. I wish they'd at least release a new DVD version in the US, especially since it's an American movie!

Mind PAL material will play on ANY computer as long as it has a DVDROM obviously.

But, I prefer watching movies on a TV rather than my computer. Plus, my laptop can play any region at first, but after switching between different regions 4 or 5 times, it will lock in at the last region that was played. And then I'd be stuck with only being able to play those kinds of DVDs. I think there are ways to get around this, but I haven't attempted anything yet.

If you love movies you need to invest in a multiregion player -or it's best to avoid forums outside your area as you'll just be disappointed.

Multi-region DVD players have been around for 15 years.

No excuse.

Nothing to do with multi-region DVD players.

You're right. I should've ran out and bought one when I was 3 years old.

I'm just trying to figure out all of this. I thought that multi-region players only dealt with the region issue. Wouldn't I also need to buy an NTSC to PAL converter, or a TV that is compatible with both formats?

And the reason why I came to a forum outside of my area is because I like Martin too, and I just wanted to talk about it...

The only region-free players I've ever owned have been from Oppo, who make damn fine machines. Both of those had a setting to convert PAL to NTSC, so you'd could essentially watch anything from anywhere on your TV. Note: Oppo's blu-ray players require an easy-to-install mod in order to make them region-free now.

There's been an HD master for years, it's 1.77 which is, I believe, why Arrow never used it. Seeing as the Japanese BD is in this ratio with the correct academy ratio as an SD extra only, I have a feeling that they're going to use this old HD master (Lionsgate used it for their 2004 US DVD). If there was a new master being made it would probably be in the correct academy ratio. I really want to be wrong but the signs aren't good. The film loses too much when framed at 1.77.

You're probably right. That's why I asked about the master. As I know from previous discussions I've had regarding this that the issue is the person who has the elements that a new master could be processed from is wanting an astronomical amount to make any sort of licensing deal happen.

So unless that changes we could be in for a looooooong wait again.

I think it’s even worse: the aspect ratio for the blu ray is 16:9 (1.85:1), according to the listing on Amazon Japan. They’re releasing the full frame version in SD as a bonus on this release.

Regardless, it’s Martin in 1080p. It might be something like 54 US dollars, but I’m jumping on it. If anyone can ever afford the blu ray licensing rights to the 3-film package Martin is currently bundled with, I’ll double dip. As it is, the only copy I own is a download from one of the old DVD releases.
