Default George A. Romero: Is He A Joke?

Question: George A. Romero, great talent or past his prime? Night of the Living Dead (1968), Dawn of the Dead (1978), Martin (1977), Knnightriders (1981): Is he irrelevant? His best work years ago? Your thoughts: yes or no.

Also: Should he lay off Zombie films?

Favorite Romero? What moved you?

lol neither I guess, I just figured you would get to Romero eventually since you seem to be making a thread about every classic horror director.

Well thanks. I thought I would post threads rather than thoughts. It's safer that way?

Are you trying to start arguments? Romero is a hallowed name.

Fanboys will say he's the "God" of horror movies and people who think otherwise are idiots. Others will say he hasn't done a decent film in years and that he should have given up a long time ago.

I myself root for George. When he's "on" he's one of the best (you know the movies I'm referring to), but even when he's "off" his films SAY something, and are generally entertaining. Either way, I can't imagine what the world of Horror would be like if he hadn't come along.

I would definitely say that he's NOT "a joke."

Default Another Question.

Question:

Is a failed attempt worth credit? Because it says something? Is that enough?

I was merely posing a question. Curious to get feedback. That's all.

So your questions are really statements in a passive aggressive manor of speaking?

I have seen: Night, Dawn, and Day of the dead...and then Land of the Dead...and Land was the only failed attempt imo.

I haven't seen enough Romero movies to make a real comment, but I've seen enough of these threads to know that yes, these are a joke.

I would say yes. Just for the simple fact that if you look at a majority of the drivel that passes for Horror, to see someone that's actually trying to entertain AND make you think is something that should be appreciated.

Some people think that he tripped up with Land... and Diary... but I still find parts of those movies to be well worth the celluloid they were placed on.

Just my opinion.

And Crim122: if it's your first time meeting him, you're in for a treat. He's such a cool guy.

Of course his best years are behind him, the man is almost seventy years old! He spent a lifetime battling to make the kind of movies he wanted to make. His body of work is unique and has inspired generations of young filmakers. If his recent work isnt exactly cutting edge, he's still doing his thing and he has my respect for it.
