Oh, I can think of a couple. John Carpenter went from Halloween to Ghosts of Mars to smoking weed and playing X-Box.

Craven, Romero, Hooper, and Hitchcock ended their careers weak, too.

AMW was... fine. Good. Solid. Great performances, especially Plummer. But Scott was on autopilot.

Martian rocks though.

It's usual quite rare for directors to get better as they get older. But I'd watch anything Sir Ridley puts out.

I think the only directors that are consistently good are Kubrick, Scorsese, Kurosawa, and PTA.

They did make Intolerable Cruelty. The rest, I liked, even Ladykillers, which is underrated.

couldnt we get the kids story in a comic or book instead?

be nice to find out what happened next but this is certainly one movie that does NOT need a sequel, or spin off or whatever.

Ridley has reached that stage of his career where his films arent as successful, so he keeps trying to go back to his hits. It's Stallone syndrome.

Why is it that Hollywood can't make original content or at least an attempt on something seemingly original and a little 'fresh' with nee franchises. All we get are lazy prequels, sequels and remakes. That or very weak 'new' movies.

Budgets are being inflated so astronomically high, that quality original movies are suffering imo. Anybody think Netflix, Prime etc. are trying to sort this out with original programming?

Why? The audience that’s why. The mainstream. They have just ensured that Venom and The Meg have made great numbers. All the while, Annihilation and BladeRunner 2049 flopped. Need I say more?

As for his in-development projects, in my dream world he'd be focusing on The Cartel, Alien, and Wraiths of the Broken Land.
Same here, I just don't understand what the Ridley haters are smoking. He and Michael Mann are just about the last of the great visualist auteur studio directors left. And they won't be around much longer.

With you on Cartel, Alien and Wraiths - hell, you never know, we may yet see all of them, he still churns out a picture every 2 years, sometimes even faster.
