Ridley has reached that stage of his career where his films arent as successful, so he keeps trying to go back to his hits. It's Stallone syndrome.

He's one of the greatest directors working today and one of the worst directors working today.

I guess RS is banking on his highly successful revisit to the Alien series to give Gladiator the same marvelous treatment

Plus the fact he makes movies quickly and cheaply, which studios absolutely love. Just look at Clint Eastwood; You do that and Hollywood will let you do what you want, even if it flops.
