It's an old master dude. Color accuracy was a distant concern on home video until pretty recently. When these get 4k remasters... and they will... the color should be much improved.

I’m pretty sure the user is a new page by the old user, PrincessToadstool. They both keep saying Scorsese ruined modern cinema and Golden Age of Hollywood is the only worthwhile era of filmmaking.

I don't think so, like I said I see this on every bluray, and even releases from older films, they look completely different to what they used to look. Like I said there's no way of discussing this without people trying to bury this.

This is a blu-ray but it came out many years ago and is from an older master. A new 4k remaster will surely look more accurate, although as JCFan hints at above a lot of times people see a more accurate master as revisionist anyway, because they're used to VHS or DVD color-timing.

Aliens and Terminator the best example of that. People freaked over the teal look of the BDs, but pictures of release prints show they were always teal. It was the DVDs that were wrong.

but wouldn't the VHS version be more accurate since it was released shortly after the film? And Terminator 2 was definitely altered, they even went back and fixed mistakes and altered frames digitally, a huge no no in my opinion. I think Aliens was tealed and oranged too.

No way, the limitations of the format are insane. Timing has little to do with it. The only way to know accuracy is to reference release prints, which Warner typically do for their modern remasters now. I'm sure Batman will look very accurate once they remaster it.

I meant only in the color, I know VHS is far less quality. Which remaster would you say was particularly accurate? The blurays I enjoy the most are actually the ones of films that are not deemed important where you can tell they've just scanned whatever print they had lying around, sometimes you can even see dust specks, I must say they not only have accurate color, they are far more enjoyable as an experience.

I can give you a good example of this actually. The Lowry restored edition of The Abyss that appeared on streaming services has a very teal look to it compared to the ancient DVD-era masters.

I was lucky to see a very good 35mm print of the special edition on the big screen and was quite surprised to see that the film does indeed have a teal look to it but it just wasn't as prominent as the HD streaming version was, but it was there.

Aliens though is another matter. Not a fan of the BD transfer. Saw it 2 years ago on 70mm and the closest home video release to how it originally looked was the THX Laserdisc.

I think the teal can be heavier than it should be on remasters like Aliens, but if UHD has taught me anything it's that quickie 8-bit transfers can cause blanket tints to become more prominent. A UHD of Aliens might add a lot of nuance that matches the teal but not overly teal prints.

it depends what you are talking about. You can light a scene with a teal tone or any tone for that matter, that is not the same as teal and orange which is blanket filters that color the entire image one color, which is what James Cameron is now doing to all of his films on bluray.
