The problem with openings is that you have to take into account what is behind that opening. My room is 16 x 16. If it was sealed I could get away with the ed sub mentioned above. Or I could have stuck with my HSU VTF-2.

Since it opened up to a large kitchen on one side and hall on the other I went with the VTF-3.

actually, the satin black is on sale right now for $629 which, in my opinion, is a steal.

How does that stack up against AV123 MFW-15 Subwoofer?

both are great subs. personally i would have a tough time buying a 15" sub. from what i read when researching, the mfw-15 is better suited for larger rooms. in smaller rooms, you won't see the advantages.
