Default Animes Seen and Recommended

Well, after recently watching and reading the Great Teacher Onizaku series, awesome by the way, I was wondering about what the other members have watched and what they recommend.

This thread is to discuss all anime, not just those being released on Blu-Ray.

Death Note definitely... Even the live action movies are great...

Neon Genesis Evangelion
Gurren Lagann

And some 'must watch' movies:
Akira

ANY film by Miyazaki:
Nausicaa
Laputa: Castle in the Sky
Spirited Away
Princess Mononoke
Howl's Moving Castle

And these 3, which are a little more kid-oriented, but still great:
My Neighbor Totoro
Kiki's Delivery Service
Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea (coming out in theaters this month I think, in the U.S.)

Naturally, for every 10 listed, there's 100 I didn't mention... Generally, if you like some anime, you will like a lot of anime, it just depends on the genres you are interested in...

Gundam 0083 Stardust Memories (series of OAVs) is still amongst my all time tops

As per Evangelion, you have to give it a chance for a while.
At first, it's very annoying, then it gets better, then they are really annoying again, but by then you have learned to love them with the annoyances
Overall I think (like countless others) that the series was a landmark in anime TV series (like Akira was for Anime movies), but it is not a given that everybody will like it.

Loved Eureka 7 recently, and in the classics I'd put Ghost in the Shell & Lodoss Wars (awful animation but the story & design are great, if generic, specially for fans of D&D).
Miyazaki movies are a no brainer (can't wait to see Ponyo), but the Satoshi Kon ones are really good too (Perfect Blue, Paprika) and I'm a big fan of Mamoru Oshii (Patlabor, Patlabor 2, The Ghost in the Shell, Ghost in the Shell: Innocence).

Recently, I have re-immersed myself in Macrosss (relabelled and re-edited as Robotech in the US) thanks to Macross Frontier, but Macross Plus & Zero are definitely to check out too.

I can't wait till Frontier comes out over here, looks like it may actually live up to the first 3 Robotech series.

I cannot stress how insanely brilliant this anime is. Especially if you are familiar with some of the characteristics of anime. There is so much fan service and cliche things but done in such a unique way. This gets my highest recommendation.

Try to avoid the Shonen Jump stuff. It's not very deep and tends to follow the same basic ideas in all of them.

There are a few I absolutely think are great:

Akira
Princess Mononoske
Trigun
Cowboy Bebop
Serial Experiment Lain
Full Metal Alchemist and FMA Brotherhood
GTO
Evangelion (To an extent, I'm not like a crazy fan, but I definitely enjoyed it when watching it)
Gundam Wing (Don't remember a thing, except liking it as a small child)
Grave of the Fireflies

Any reccomendations?

These are some no brainers that have probably been mentioned many many times already...but, my list:

Akira
Grave of the Fireflies
Cowboy Bebop
Trigun
Escaflowne
Jin-Roh
Samurai Champloo (Which I nicknamed Samurai Shampoo)

Bebop is just amazing, animation, voice acting (amazingly both in original Japanese and English), story, music. It's just a very good show overall.
