Coppola just needs to straight-up stop faffing about with it. He had it right the first time. Hole in one, dude. Stop swinging at the ball.

Coppola has been listening to his old friend Georgie too much.

Absolutely Goddamn right. Unless you were going all the way. George Lucas got off the boat. He split from the whole f'n program.

I really doubt it, judging by other remasters of Coppola.

Trust me, you're not missing anything important. 1979 Theatrical version is the only way to go.

I remember people getting pissed at the idea that Blade Runner: Final Cut is the only way to go. No, Apocalypse Now theatrical isn't the only way to go. Redux is a legitimate version of the film, regardless if someone likes it or not.

Here's a another opinion. I like Redux. I watched it many times. Unless you're overzealous about the original theatrical cut, it's definitely worth checking out. It feels really different. Keep open mind.

So long as they aren't messing the movie up George Pucas style, embarrassingly revisionist on something you had full control of anyhow, and just adding or tightening scenes, I don't mind. And unlike some, I don't worry about audio revisionism if the add new elements to make the soundtrack richer. I mean so many movies get a faithful 3d audio upgrade, like say The Big Lebowski, or even first blood. But because we are looking at pretty ordinary dialog driven films unless you add stuff, it is just going to sound stereo.

Always was fascinated by the scene at the Do Lung Bridge. A wild, crazy scene that should look and sound great.

I agree 100%. I was never slavishly dedicated to theatrical version, and I enjoy Redux very much. I’ve seen it so many times, in fact, that there are sections of the theatrical version that feel rushed to me now. I’d prefer a version with everything from Redux but the plantation scene, but I’ll take the bad with the good.

This article seems to indicate that “Final Cut” is a misnomer: http://hollywood-elsewhere.com/2019/...w-spit-shined/

Nice to hear it's not another cut. I still hope they restored both versions, though.

Same. After the terrific Blu-ray that contained both, NOT containing Redux on the UHD would be a huge missed opportunity IMO, and would change it from a "day one" purchase to a "wait for a sale" purchase for me.

As much I just want the TC only, I hope they've restored Redux as well so people can enjoy that version too. Fingers crossed they put each version on a separate disc rather than branching it though, I know they managed to branch it on Blu-ray but at the expense of a very low bitrate. They got away with it then but those margins would be so much finer on UHD that it could end up being disastrous. Then again if StudioCanal are the ones handling the authoring and encoding it might end up looking like Lego Vision anyway, no matter how many bits are thrown at it.

The real question is, will we get Hearts of Darkness on an UHD disc? Now that's some seriously wishful thinking right there
