It said nursing home so it is a bit different than the hospital as there is more freedom unless she was bed ridden. Now I'm going to have to watch some of her films especially with Bergman as I've yet to watch all of his.

Like every month, I'm hoping for a standalone release of The Last Picture Show.

Hopefully, the announcement for the July titles will be tomorrow. I'm kinda hoping that DO THE RIGHT THING will be among the titles.

I think Do the Right Thing will be a July release... per Wikipedia it premiered in the US on July 21, 1989. So a July 23 release would be perfect for its 30th anniversary.

I broached the subject a few pages back, but I hope we get those damn Varda upgrades soon. Still can’t believe it hasn’t happened yet with Criterion.

Last month, Garbo was there star of the month. Since were talking about Garbo, The Saga of Gosta Berling was on TCM with the Janus logo before it. Hopefully, Criterion releases this soon.

My Roku arrived today and the Criterion Channel is working. I still don't like the menu system, but if you use the search function you can pretty much find most everything.

The Vardas and Godzillas, among a bunch of other yet-to-be released on disc stuff, are all on the Criterion streaming channel. It'll be interesting to see if and when they even bother to release discs. I figure they will, but will be interesting to see how sales compare.

There's things like the Basil Dearden films that were DVD-only Eclipse series on there as well, and they don't look like DVD upscales at quick glance.

Yeah, I’ve been going through the Directed by Varda Collection and when I got to La Bonheur I concluded I need to own these...and that’s when I learned they never got upgraded. I’m holding off on importing for the time being.

Soon I’ll be going through the Godzilla stuff too. That’ll be a definite purchase if the boxset ever comes to fruition.

I’m so glad the Channel exists though and I already know it won’t stop me from buying discs.

Now if Criterion gets the rights back to Rene Clement's Forbidden Games Owl can do the complete CC gamesmanship.

Wikepedia is incorrect, then, because "Do the Right Thing" opened in the US on June 30, 1989.

Still, yes, I think it WILL be a July title.

Just wishful thinking, but I'd love some Scorsese or Pasolini.

Given the quantity/price ratio of the AE set, it's gonna take a looooot of extras to justify buying individual Varda releases. The AE set is stellar, stacked, and I've found all the essays I've read exceptionally good as well. And it also includes things that I'm happy to have, but don't think I'd get around to buying, like One Sings... I've seen it, I like it, and i'll probably watch it again since I have it, but I don't think I'd buy the individual CC disc.

And I paid ~$45 for the AE set shipped... Which is two sale CC discs. And which is less than the (upgraded) 4 by Varda set would be during a sale. If you're region-free, it's a no-brainer.

But AE set has not 4, but 8 features, so senseabove's point is still valid.

David Lean Blu-Ray set MSRP is $99.99, at least on the Criterion website. The DVD set is $79.99.

Hi there - wanted to share a solo podcast episode (more like audio essay) I just did on Rossellini's The Flowers of St. Francis! This is the fourth episode in a show I'm doing focused on Cinema Italiano.

Would love to see this one get upgraded in tomorrow's announcements or some time in the near future! There's a lot of great stuff that's still DVD-only!
