Still absolutely despise this movie, it trivializes a lot of what I have always valued in TREK while coming off so consistently 'wrong' in tone that the occasional moments that work seem more distracting than anything else. Have never been able to watch this movie w/o fastforwarding either (and have tried four times), as opposed to INTO DARKNESS, which while awful, I could laugh at. Along with SKYFALL and CASINO ROYALE, and AVATAR, probably the most overrated popular movies of the century (that I've tried watching, that is. I'm sure there's lot of other popular crap titles.)

If there was a way to take the gauziness of the space scenes and the over/mis/use of lens flares out, I'd be willing to give it another chance, but as it stands now, this is the only Trek movie I don't have on Blu-Ray (the only ones I really really love -- in spite of their many problems -- are TMP, TWOK and TFF), even though the pawn shop near my work always has it for two bucks.

I agree with all of this...except the Skyfall and Casino Royale dig. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Yeah the 2009 trilogy is garbage and I'm glad these movies are over after the one in 2016 underperformed. A dark decade to be a trek fan with std spreading its sores and disease across the internet too. Michael Burnham is the worst lead character in American TV history.

10 years? Dang.

Personally, I love this movie so very much. I can see where long standing fans are coming from with their grievances, but you can't deny that this movie gave Star Trek new life in the mainstream eye. Plus to some, like me, it was the gateway drug to other Trek things (finally watched the shows and the old movies).

EDIT: Also, if your city's symphony is playing the score to this live, go check it without hesitation.

You can’t please everyone I suppose, as a long standing fan I really like it.

But that's so impersonal. Knowing you took the time to type a whole sentence instead makes all the difference.
