I am not really stuck on sony, just have a little more felxability from buying that receiver from its local store in my town. I am just lookng for a decent receiver, preferably a 5 channel setup versus 7 channel since I wont ever have a need for 7.1 in my current home. I couldnt find that Onlyo 605, I read some reviews and I am almost certain that would be the one I would buy if I could find it.

The Onkyo 606 is a newer version of the 605.
I would also expect a 607 to be coming out within the next few months.

No such thing as "won't ever" in this business! I'd say get the 7.1 because you may later want it and won't have it and if you don't want it you can bi-amp you front speakers now (if the speakers you have accept it or in the future should you upgrade your front speakers. of course you might always up and buy 2 back channels and there ya go! I stopped saying "never or won't eve or don't need" a long time ago in this thing! I'm happy with both Onkyo and Polk Audio, Check out my rig! best of luck buddy.

I just recently picked the new yamaha rx-v465, its a great 5.1 receiver, and it does decode the hd codecs. picked it up for a little over $300. i highly recommend this receiver to anyone looking for a 5.1 receiver.
