Actually, all Sony releases in Japan have been region free so far, except for 2 or 3 titles. If this is region free, I am getting this for sure, this is so classy! But why the hell hasn't it been announced in the USA yet?! Really I just don't get it!

Those black cases look sweet. God, that thing is going to cost a fortune, I can tell. Damn Japan...

It'll be interesting to see if it's released the same way here or if they'll split the two movies up and sell them separately. Didn't they release them in the theaters separately? It was either the U.S. or Latin America where they did that IIRC.

Japan is the same region as USA.... So If you live in the US your good.

One reason why it hasn't been announced on Blu-ray is that it still touring Art House Theaters.... Its coming to my local Theater in 2 weeks. They are showing it in 2 different showings. You have to buy 2 tickets

That looks great, but I wish there was the roadshow version on Blu, I know there was an intermission, but The Godfather II was all on one blu, and I'm guessing that It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World's eventual blu release will be the same (hopefully).

<3 that roadshow version.

Yes, I know it's 4 hours, but still.

Default English subs? Wouldn't count on it.......

After searching through the official Sony Japan Blu-Ray website linked in the original article, I have been unable to find the complete listing for this release. It seems all that has been sent out is the (incomplete) press release. Perhaps in a few days they will update their website as well. Until then, I wouldn't get your hopes up regarding this release unless you (and anyone you would like to enjoy this movie with at the same time) can either A: comprehend fluent Spanish, or B: read Japanese at a native level. I meet neither of these criterion, and that is after 7 years living in Japan. It was to my disappointment (but in retrospect it was obvious going in... I just wasn't thinking clearly when I bought my ticket) when I went to see this movie in the Theater here in Tokyo, and about 10 minutes in, I realized I wouldn't be able to follow the dialogue except for the few intermittent spoken English scenes. I'm not entirely familiar with the latest capabilities of the Blu-Ray Format so am unsure if you can "officially" update a BD (using a vanilla off the shelf player that is unhacked) with an English subtitle file, which you would certainly be able to find with the most rudimentary google search.

Sony rarely updates there website to get the fastest news so you can rarely rely on that. And this is an American Movie. Its in English/Spanish and will have the English subtitles thats like a given. I've bought a lot of Blu-Rays from Japan and all the American made movies have all been VERY English friendly. Amazon says Subtitles too. So there is very little doubt in my mind that this wont have the partial subtitles that this movie was intended to have.

Not to mention with Amazons standard 27% off this will come down to a reasonable $70

Pre order is up at Amazon Japan at 7,371 Yen which equals approximately $75.

Yes of course. But for a Japanese release aimed at a Japanese-fluent audience / consumer I would be hardly surprised if there was NOT an English subtitle track. I also checked the amazon page before posting my original message, and the allusions to English are only made on reference to the audio where there are indeed a few scenes with spoken English. The Japanese consumer would not have an interest in an English subtitle track for this film, that I can see.
Not that that excuses the ommision of such a track, with the kind of ridiculous amount of data storage Blu-ray is capable of, in an ideal world we would have the top 50 or even more languages of the world included by default, at least for every major international studio release. Living in Japan, there have been numerous times I've rented a DVD of a non-English movie (French, Russian, Chinese, etc) only to be dissapointed by the complete lack of an English subtitle option. Japan is NOT Hong Kong, perhaps for non-English movies you would be better served by consideration of HK (generally English friendly, at least during the Laserdisc era) releases.

Two tickets? Thats terrible. I saw this recently and only paid for one admission, although the price was increased to $15. Still, its not double the admission charge (which would have be $22.50) and it included 6 hours of free parking!

If you do manage to see it, you should also get a 34 page special roadshow edition program! Each part receives 17 pages of coverage. Its full of black and white photos by Mary Ellen Mark mixed in amongst all the film credits for both parts. I guess thats why their are no film credits at the end of the movie. I wonder if the 'special book' in the blu-ray release will be taken from the RE program.

Oddly, both parts have different aspect ratios, part 1 appears to be 2:35 and part 2 is 1:85.
