Alright but with 4K....I kind of thought there wasn't supposed be any drop-off in detail.

All the things I've put off watching for months and I watch this the day it comes out. That's the power of childhood heroes I guess. Go figure.

Anyway... enjoyable b-movie, but pales in comparison to the last one. I'm not someone who gets upset about such things though, I had a good time with it and when I watch Rambo 4 I can still think of that ending as final. It's like Alien... every Alien movie I watch is "the last one" when I'm watching it. So ending on a b-movie is fine, it was good fun. Only story point that bothered me was
[Show spoiler]why he didn't take the girl to a freaking doctor. Overdoses are somewhat easy to treat, and the journalist woman even had a doctor off the books on call. I was screaming "WTF are you doing?" before she even died.

Disc was gorgeous. Hadn't watched a good UHD in a long while, so it was nice to see.

[Show spoiler]The way I saw it, he wouldn't be able to take her to a hospital until he crossed the border. If he took her to a hospital in Mexico, they'd both be killed - no way they'd be able to hide from the cartel. Unclear if he had crossed the border when she died, but it was rural as hell where they were - who knows how far the nearest hospital was.

I asked myself the same question at the cinema, but yeah

Agreed. When the transfer is on, it's really on, thanks to dat 4K finish. Shame about the crummy drone shots, the random DNR, and other anomalies. But yeah, for the most part, it's reallllly nice.

I’m glad I missed this one in the theaters. Rented it last night and didn’t care for it at all. I can understand why David Morrell was embarrassed. The first Rambo movie I would call a bad film. Not entertaining just an ugly and mean-spirited film. Rambo IV was depressing but atleast was serious about its depiction of Burma. I enjoyed the tension and suspenseful build up of the first half, but he lost me
[Show spoiler]when he started claw-hammering Johns in the brothel. I don’t see how that’s justified.

The only thing I didn't like about the movie was I wanted to see the women who were trafficked saved by Rambo. But that's forgiven in the flood intro that was cut because they said to Rambo that it was alright that you couldn't save everyone. I thought that intro was important and that they shouldn't have cut that. They will probably re-release Rambo Last Blood as a Home Alone edition extended cut down the line with that intro in like they did with Rambo theatrical and extended cut because you know they want that double dip money.

IMO, the intro serves several purposes. It introduces that "you can't save everyone" motif, it feeds into his PTSD (walking down the tunnel feels incomplete without the hiker cries triggering that), plus the subsequent scene with Maria is important for Rambo's character arc, as she compares him to his Dad. It also shows what Rambo does in his spare time, aside from chilling in his tunnels. Hell, it'd surely further alleviate old mate's complaint about Rambo being unlikeable, since he's volunteering to go into dangerous situations to save innocent people.

So yeah, extended edition for me. And I don't really care if anybody disagrees.

My main point was that I'm a die hard fan of the Rambo franchise and have been from the start back in 1982. I've watched the first 3 Rambo films at least 100 times each, and part 4 at least 25 times. I know every scene in all 4 of the previous films. I can quote the movies pretty much line for line. I'm just saying that for anyone to suggest that I don't understand the Rambo character (The Rambo franchise is my second favorite film franchise only behind Rocky) is ridiculous. I'm also not trying to diminish any other Rambo fans feelings about the franchise. I get that everyone has a right to their opinion, even if it differs from mine.

There are many, many complaints that I have about the movie beyond just Rambo's brutality in the film. I hated almost everything about the movie. I would have changed almost everything about the movie. It would have been one thing for Stallone to have made this film and have called it "Death Wish," I just wish that he hadn't ruined the Rambo franchise in my eyes.
Couldn’t agree more. This felt like Stallone’s Death Wish not Rambo. He wanted to do Death Wish but they gave it to Roth and Willis.

Well, I enjoyed it immensely. I felt like I was watching a relevant yet exploitative and borderline bad-taste, vicious and satisfying action/revenge film made for adults.. that nobody else would make.. except for great thanks to Sylvester Stallone still out here doing what he does. The pacing is on point and the suspense is real. The pay-off is awesome.

Too costly, so let's shoot Stallone on a green screen in a garage in a car?
Maybe, yeah. That's a big reason I said the movie was like a b-movie, it felt obviously low budget. Many of the same locations reused, not much spectacle until the finale, lots of stuff that would usually be shown was just referenced. Even the reporter lady's help was all off-screen, making her feel irrelevant. Not wanting to deal with a hospital scene wouldn't surprise me.

It reminds me of the direct-to-video releases a lot of old action stars are doing, but with a lot more heart and effort put into it. Which makes up for a lot, to be fair.

It's not the most high end and artisinal movie, but it turns into a UHD showcase at the ranch. That's when you get some awesome interplay of shadow, light, gunfire, laser sights, good old HDR sunshine, and the audio starts kicking. Solid detail throughout and you get a full dose of old Sly's mug. A good, new release Lionsgate disc without any source baggage to worry about and was clearly mastered to be bright and clear on anyone's set.

Thank you for the years, Rambo

Crap movie with crap release. Such a disappointment all around. Where’s the alternate cut? Not even any deleted scenes? I love the other entries and am an ocd completist but this is an easy pass. I already wasted $10 on this at the theater. Safe to say I will never watch this one again. Just terrible.

While I didn't love Last Blood, I really enjoyed it. I think Rambo 4 was pretty much the perfect ending and this feels more like an epilogue or a fan fiction take on what happened when he returned home.

I could see a scenario where if you watch First Blood and then Last Blood how he could have ended up like that. I find it harder to connect the Rambo of 2 and 3 with part 4 and 5 though. Those feel like totally different characters to me.

I think you could watch 1 and 5 and it will work. Meanwhile 2 and 3 are companion pieces and 4 and 5 also work together.

Certainly not as satisfying of a conclusion as the Rocky series but I didn't find it embarrassing or anything. Just ultimately not necessary.

One of the few movies we preordered this year from Target and our PO has been sitting on it since the UPS handed it off to them early Monday morning. Soooo, glad amazon is doing most of their own deliveries now, lest none of our online Christmas gifts would arrive before the new year.

I noticed whilst watching the Aussie version that the subtitles for the Spanish dialogue are burnt-in, not a subtitle track, on both the Blu and the 4K. If these subtitles were burnt-in by the production company, maybe the same master was supplied to other territories, which would mean that the German 4K extended cut might carry said subs.

Fingers crossed.

In the meantime, I can state that the Aussie Blu-ray looks really damn good. That bitrate almost always stays above 30 Mbps, and sometimes hits 40 Mbps. Texturally, it's not that far off the 4K. I'll happily hold onto it until the extended edition comes to 4K.

So the Aussie 4k is still the standard theatrical (89 minute) cut, but the regular Blu-Ray has the extended cut? Is that correct?
