Default Is Paris je t'aime worth a blind buy for 10.99?

I saw this toinight at Tower.com for 10.99,the cheapest so far,I am thinking on getting the Hall and Oates concert on Blu for 9.99 as well,How is the Paris je t'aime film? the review here says it has some mislablelng with the soundtracks,is there an english dub or just Franch, there are English speaking actors in it! Is it worth picking up? as long as the subtitles are good i might buy,as I did want to see this in the thaeters in 2007 but missed out! War Inc .is also only 6.99 at Tower, the cheapest I've ever seen that one as well!

Get the DVD.

The BD offers Dolby TrueHD French 5.1 and Dolby Digital French 2.0 but the only subtitles are English Subtitled For the Hearing Impaired. That means that not only are there subtitles for the dialogue but for sound effects and music. It gets really irritating when you watch the Coen Brothers segment as most of the image is obscured by subtitles. The only extra is a featurette.

On the other hand, the two disc DVD can be bought for the same price and has Dolby Digital & DTS French 5.1 sound and proper English subtitles. It also has making-of specific featurettes on the short films on disc two.

The only BD I have ever truly regret buying.

i'm a big fan of this film(s) hard to compare it to anything, but for that price..maybe just a few bucks more than a rental I would say it's worth a blind buy IMO

Have the 2DVD set. Recall not being able to find anything but the subtitled for the hearing impaired version on that one...

NASTY - I don't think any of the so called "professional" internet reviews pointed that out. THANKS

I generally like anything related to French culture, but I disliked it, and never finished watching the rental disc I had.

Actually, we did.

This being said, I am going to assume that the gentleman who recommended the 2DVD set actually did not pay attention to the standard-def transfer at all when he watched the film. Had he done that, he would have pointed out that the R1 SDVD boasts an improperly converted PAL-NTSC transfer, plagued with heavy "ghosting".

The BD is well worth the price.

Okay...

So you can either

A) Watch the film in interlaced video (PAL to NTSC) on DVD with proper burned-in English subtitles for just the French portions.

or

B) Watch the film in 1080/24 on BD with subtitles for all the sound and dialogue in the movie.

Personally, First Look should have better BD production quality since the disc could easily accomodate another subtitle stream just for the French dialogue. I suspsct that First Look struck a new transfer for the 1080/24 and simply tossed in the same subtitles from the DVD without a thought.

As for the PAL to NTSC issue, that would explain the burned-in English subtitles for the French dialogue. Still I would rather take this over having my screen filled with subtitles for "indiscriminate dialogue," "car honking," etc.

But hey, I'm not a professional reviewer just a movie buff who would like his movies presented properly. Guess that will never happen with this film.
