![]() The fact that the votes are this high against Casino Royale are strangely impressive alone since all I’ve been hearing since Craig’s sequels are “Casino Royale this, and Casino Royale that.” Which is also where I differ because I find Skyfall and Spectre to be superior (and License to Kill as well). But that’s a story for a different round. |

These are essentially tied for me and very high on my rankings (#4 and #5) despite how different they are tonally. For me, it really comes down to Fleming Bond (CR) vs. Franchise Bond (TSWLM) aka grounded and more adult themed vs. cartoony, tongue-in-cheek fun. I don't necessarily have a preference; it's all about execution. And in this instance, these are both very good examples of their respective styles.
Ultimately, I went with Spy, but ask me on a different day when I'm in a different mood, when it's not so sunny outside or I had something else for breakfast (perhaps scrambled eggs and black coffee) and I could easily see picking Casino instead. I'm going to have the exact same problem tomorrow with Russia (Fleming Bond) vs. Goldfinger (Franchise Bond), which also happen to be my #s 1 & 2. |

If The Spy Who Loved Me isn't Moore's best Bond, at the very least it's "quintessential" Moore Bond, just like Goldfinger is "quintessential" Connery Bond. That being said, although it's mostly fantastic I've always felt a bit bored by the climax with the big shootout on the Liparus. I'm giving this one to Casino Royale because watching that when it first came out got my blood pumping for Bond again after the lackluster Brosnan years.

This is very simple people. I said in the last Bond poll my top 5 bond movies and Casino Royale is there. So my nemesis here thought they could beat Casino Royale with a crappy movie like TSWLM. Here it is your answer on why Spy is giving a fight to a better movie. Ofc i know some people really like that movie but i also know they are not all here at the same time ffs...
Casino Royale is better than any moore bond movie period!!! The only doubt here is if you dont like Craig and love Moore and really like Spy. Given that into account its not possible to have 17 people voting for it!!! Last edited by scifisuperfan; 04-05-2020 at 11:55 PM. |

I'm probably biased because I grew up with Roger Moore on the big screen (and Connery on the small screen with ABC Movie Of The Week for those that remember). I like (and in some cases love) every film he was in.
Connery is still hands down my favorite Bond (and actor). But tied for second place to me is (ironically) Moore... and Craig. I may even give a slight edge to Craig since his portrayal is closer to Connery. The Spy Who Loved Me is Moore at the top of his game and his best film (along with Live And Let Die which I know is a minority opinion). I think Casino Royale is a terrific film but I'm not in it's fanboy club which these forums seem to be.... |

I like Spy, but FYEO is my personal favorite Moore. Casino Royale, which gets my vote this round, is so good, it's almost too good to be a Bond movie. It really doesn't fit at all with the Connery-through-Brosnan films. It's almost unfair to compare any of them. The rest of Craig's output has not lived up to the promise of his debut, IMHO. P.S. The 1967 version of Casino Royale has a wonderful music score! |

I think a new poll must be made for Casino Royale 1967 vs Never Say Never Again

Yes, it absolutely does. Not just the title song, but all of Burt Bacharach's peppy, poppy music elevates that film a great deal. And although it's not a Bond film in the proper sense, it's a damn fun movie. Also, "The Look of Love" was the first song from a Bond movie to be nominated for an Oscar and it ended up losing to "Talk to the Animals" from f*cking Doctor Dolittle.
