All That Heaven Allows is a gorgeous melodrama that is largely set during the fall/Christmas. There are some great Christmas sequences in it and a lot of picturesque snowscapes throughout. I also consider The Night of the Hunter a quasi-Christmas movie as it ends at Christmastime.

I forget that Criterion and other boutique labels are rescuing some of the Fox movies Disney doesn't care about. I watched Leave Her to Heaven completely blind to the premise just now and came away pretty impressed.

Ah yes, In the Realm of the Senses is the ultimate Christmas movie to watch with the family.

By the way, I didn't know that Repulsion was technically considered a Christmas movie or at least had a scene related to Christmas. Anyone know what scene they had with Christmas in it?

which has Camera Buff and No End, but I also have Blind Chance on blu from Criterion and was just hoping to upgrade the others. I am region free, but if the others get a US blu release, things are simpler.

Pakula is hit or miss for me. Loved Klute, All the President's Men, and Sophie's Choice. Other films of his -- including The Parallax View -- just didn't work for me.

While it'd be nice, who know how long it'd take for Criterion to release them, if at all. If you're looking for a Blu-ray release, you don't want to miss out on the set.

Other than the Agnes Varda set I've only picked up a handful of titles but I've gotten most of them from Amazon. Barnes & Noble has railroaded most of my attempts at buying from them, from not accepting valid payment methods to the site freezing up at checkout. Why waste time calling customer service if I can just click a few buttons on Amazon and I'm done?

A good chunk of The Magnificent Ambersons (including what I consider the two best extended sequences in the movie) takes place around Christmastime.

Forty Guns is a good picture.

But I didn’t like it as much as The Gunfighter.

We kid around a lot with each other, Ray, but this time I'm being sincere when I say that I agree with both of your statements. As someone who is rarely impressed with Criterion covers, I do think THE GUNFIGHTER one is really interesting and well done. I also love the movie. Anytime Criterion releases a western you can always expect it to be a stellar entry in the genre.
