I forget that Criterion and other boutique labels are rescuing some of the Fox movies Disney doesn't care about. I watched Leave Her to Heaven completely blind to the premise just now and came away pretty impressed.

Ah yes, In the Realm of the Senses is the ultimate Christmas movie to watch with the family.

By the way, I didn't know that Repulsion was technically considered a Christmas movie or at least had a scene related to Christmas. Anyone know what scene they had with Christmas in it?

I still prefer the Radford version, but this Cartier production is excellent, too.

Well I do own this on DVD:

which has Camera Buff and No End, but I also have Blind Chance on blu from Criterion and was just hoping to upgrade the others. I am region free, but if the others get a US blu release, things are simpler.

I came up with these (in no particular order)...

[Show spoiler]Crumb and Louie Bluie (Terry Zwigoff)
Black Moon and Zazie dans le métro (Louis Malle)
Sweet Movie and WR: Mysteries of the Organism (Dušan Makavejev)
Jubal and 3:10 to Yuma (Delmer Daves)
Charulata and The Big City (Satyajit Ray)
Gray's Anatomy and And Everything Is Going Fine (Steven Soderbergh/Spalding Gray)
L’humanité and La vie de Jésus (Bruno Dumont)
Branded to Kill and Tokyo Drifter (Seijun Suzuki)
Westfront 1918 and Kameradschaft (G. W. Pabst)

I'm not including combined films released under a single spine (such as The Shooting/Ride In The Whirlwind or the Lady Snowblood films)
The Confession (#759) and State of Siege (#760) (Costa-Gavras)

Pakula is hit or miss for me. Loved Klute, All the President's Men, and Sophie's Choice. Other films of his -- including The Parallax View -- just didn't work for me.

While it'd be nice, who know how long it'd take for Criterion to release them, if at all. If you're looking for a Blu-ray release, you don't want to miss out on the set.

Other than the Agnes Varda set I've only picked up a handful of titles but I've gotten most of them from Amazon. Barnes & Noble has railroaded most of my attempts at buying from them, from not accepting valid payment methods to the site freezing up at checkout. Why waste time calling customer service if I can just click a few buttons on Amazon and I'm done?

Picked my copy up of Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai this morning at B&N. Can't wait to check out the supplements for this one tonight.

A good chunk of The Magnificent Ambersons (including what I consider the two best extended sequences in the movie) takes place around Christmastime.

I think The Gunfighter has one of the best covers in the collection.

..really like the picture as well.

I'm glad you liked it. Now, if I may ask you a question; would you recommend Forty Guns?

Speaking of covers, it would be cool to see more original poster art from Criterion, like Arrow does on the reverse side of its reversible covers.

Yeah, every copy I've seen in the stores looks horribly beat up and scuffed. Wonder why they're rewrapping these and trying to pass them off as new?

Forty Guns is a good picture.

But I didn’t like it as much as The Gunfighter.

...not really sure why.

We kid around a lot with each other, Ray, but this time I'm being sincere when I say that I agree with both of your statements. As someone who is rarely impressed with Criterion covers, I do think THE GUNFIGHTER one is really interesting and well done. I also love the movie. Anytime Criterion releases a western you can always expect it to be a stellar entry in the genre.
