I ordered the original Irreversible amazon listing for £17 which changed to 20 Million Miles to Earth, just spoke to customer service chat and explained the listing changed, they just gave me £5 credit to preorder the correct Irreversible at £22 and still get it for £17. Worth a try for others in the same position, there was no argument and they did it straight away.

Still no joy here as amazon won't let me order it (I don't live in the UK).

I also pre-ordered from Diabolik. I don't want to miss out on this one (though it's possible it may not sell out anytime soon) and I am very curious as to what else they will be adding!

Additionally, some news on the restoration: following conversations with Gaspar Noé and Studiocanal, we have confirmation that the feature presentation is not from a 4K restoration, as was previously announced, but rather a 2K one. The film was originally post-produced at 2K (meaning a true 4K version will never be possible). The restorations of both cuts of the film were prepared in 2019, with Noé himself overseeing all aspects.

Final specs for IRREVERSIBLE will be announced very soon, including a number of exciting new additions. We are extremely proud of the work that has gone into making this release as good as it possibly can be, and we can't wait for you to see the results."
2K restoration is good enough for me. This is my favourite Gaspar Noe film!

It was, but it almost certainly wouldn't be now. These days, Noé's film would clearly meet the current guidelines for such material at 18 (as opposed to R18) - namely, that the footage be brief and contextually justified. And there's an exactly equivalent scene in Michael Haneke's The Piano Teacher a few years later that was left intact.

Seul contre tous (it was released in the UK under its original title) had the misfortune to be submitted for classification just before the great BBFC liberalisation of late 2000, at a time when they were still unsure about the legal status of clearly unsimulated sex scenes and were therefore being cautious. Not least because former BBFC Director James Ferman had basically been pushed out of his job the previous year following a row about his unilateral decision to relax R18 guidelines without informing the Home Office or HMRC, the latter complaining that he was passing stuff that they were still officially supposed to seize at the border.

A friend of mine had to watch Seul Contre Tous 4 times in one day whilst working as an usher at The Ritzy in Brixton. Gave him nightmares for weeks!

Sometimes original titles make sense but I think some labels only used original titles e.g. BFI (please correct me if I'm wrong), some Eureka releases too and it can be unnecessarily confusing. Of course sometimes the original titles can be more poetic, convey different or untranslatable meanings, or be so iconic or very simple to understand that it makes no sense to translate it.

It depends on how easily they roll off the tongues of most filmgoers. Generally I'll aim to use the native language title of the film, but I am happy to go along with whatever the UK distributors accept as the title. The only trouble is when other English speaking countries retitle, paraphrase or translate differently - Louis Malle's Lift to the Scaffold is one of many cases where the US title (Elevator to the Gallows) has dominated its online presence, despite premiering there as Frantic.

The Artificial Eye release of Truffaut's Les Deux Anglaises et le Continent takes an even more confusing approach of having the UK title of Anne and Muriel on the packaging and then the US title of Two English Girls on the menu!

So does this mean Indicator is looking into releasing this, too? And perhaps with Carne attached to the extras?

I would’ve loved if this “Cannes Reactions” video was in the supplements since there’s no English subs (the title promised subs but YouTube removed annotations ). It’s been on my “Watch Later” tab for years, and I hope someone here can translate it.
