Agreed. There are so many retcons, reboots, re-imaginings, etc. that it doesn’t really matter what’s canon. All that matters is what you like.

How would you like that storyline to continue? There was a comic book mini series in the early ‘00s that continued the Thorn storyline and connected 4-6 with H20-Resurrection. It was kind of interesting although it didn’t explain how those two timelines could coexist.

I guess i'm just going to have to watch Halloween 2 from shout collection boxset tonight or tomorrow so I'll be ready to see Halloween kills tomorrow night or Friday afternoon
To be fair I didn't expect to see any Halloween 4K on the shelf. The only one my store that was II.

It’s getting increasingly impossible to connect the new films with the original sequels, but I still insist that H4-H6 can still work with H20 and Resurrection if you really force it in your headcanon (or just stop at H20 if you prefer).

I didn't know about the comics. I'll check those out.

The word "cannon" isn't even cannon for me. Good thing I don't watch new movies!

It's easiest just to ignore Beverly Hills 902018 Drunk Psycho Grandmas, and roll with the other 8 existing films

8?

Halloween (1978) & Halloween: Season of the Witch. Nothing else matters.

A homage to the first film. You know the scene.

The film does contain some unusual kills.
[Show spoiler]I like the scene where Michael springs into shot, like a jack-in-the-box, ramming a knife into his victim’s throat.

Slasher horror was all still pretty fresh turf back then. Almost everything they did was a bit novel as they continued to push the envelope with more and more graphic and stylistic kills. I bet they had a blast sitting there writing the score and the dropping in the stings along with the video playback, too. Must've been awesome.

I do love Halloween II as a cheesy '80s slasher, but "masterpiece"? The only film in the entire series that deserves that praise is the original. HII is a fun romp, but it was clearly a money grab intended to cash-in on a huge surge of slashers in the early '80s. There's nothing wrong with that, but let's not pretend HII has much merit on its own. The stupid brother-sister angle ultimately overshadowed almost everything else about the first film. You entirely lose the point of the boogeyman. The whole point was that he hides in the shadows and kills anyone, anywhere. That's what made him so scary. That's all lost when you're told he's just out to get members of his family. And it's dumb. The boogeyman doesn't need a reason to kill, and that's what made him so frightening. I'm so so glad they dropped that from the new ones. And I totally understand why Carpenter wanted that plotline dropped.

Agree sibling angle was dumb, love that the new films did away with it. Still enjoy the hell out of II, IV and H20 though.

Finished Halloween II. Not quite as impressive of a transfer as H1 to my eyes but still excellent. The color grading and HDR is really the biggest change to me. Everything looks very natural and rich. The Atmos track is also really well done. Don't expect to be blown away but it's enjoyable and had some lower end punch towards the climax.

I've always loved H2 and for some reason, it didn't grab me as much this time around. I think because I had an extra critical eye with it being UHD, I was too busy picking apart the stuff I didn't like. It's still the best Halloween sequel to me but the criticisms are fair.

Hopefully I'll catch Halloween Kills tomorrow tonight and then it's on to at least III this weekend which I'm super looking forward to. More than Kills heh.
