Saw the new Scream film at the local cinema this past Monday night. I would say it was good to nearly very good (think I enjoyed Halloween Kills more). It got especially good/entertaining towards the end.

I remember quite liking the previous Scream film (the third not so much, and quite liking the first and second entries in the series (the first and second films I saw at one-off screenings, not on their original cinema release).

There were five trailers shown before Scream started (can't remember one of the five trailers):

Uncharted
Operation Mincemeat
Moonfall
and Nightmare Alley (the remake).

Funny thing:
I am in the midst of a Scream marathon and I was enjoying Scream 2 last night when my boyfriend storms into the living room yelling and crying as he was traumatized by the Beltrami score playing during the Sidney and Mrs Loomis fight in the end. He turned off. the TV saying this horror movies creep him out

Wes would be proud. Scream 5 certainly doesn't have that edge, the only strong scene was the opening one but it was a weaker copy of the original.

I think Beltrami's absence really hurts the movie a lot. I was actually watching Scream 2 last night, too, and the score is a huge part of what makes Scream what it is. As it is with most every other slasher icon's franchise.

Hans Zimmer deserves most of the credit for Scream 2.

Ehhh, I will agree with you on the first 3 movies but Beltrami’s score for Scream 4 was WILDLY uneven and misplaced, the musical cues were too comedic at times and not at all in line with the first 3 movies. Scream 5’s score got back to basics.

Scream 5 really gave us ALL the boys

Damn, what a hot cast. We got Mason Gooding’s great himbo Chad, Dylan Minnette’s Wes with that shower scene (thank you to whoever for that), Kyle Gallner’s Vince (brief but yummy), David Arquette as grizzled Dewey and even Jack Quaid who I don’t normally find attractive was doing it for me as Richie.

Let’s hope Scream 6 continues this trend and gives us some more man candy! Kind of refreshing for a change.

It's also super fun and camp while still giving us good performances and a sleek direction. The set piece in the woodsboro set is great stuff
I enjoy Scream 3 for what it is but it’s a complete throwaway of an entry. It’s derivative of the first two films, the killer is obvious within the first 20 minutes and it brings absolutely nothing new to the franchise. The twist is also stupid.

I haven't watch Scream 4 in so long and don't really plan to, so I forget what it even sounds like.

I didn't think it was as obvious as 1 and 2, it could have been anyone in 3 imho Tyson, Mark, Angelina and Milton were all suspicious until the end. I think Scream 3 has the best whoddunit aspect.

4 has the best final act and the reveal is hysterical, Jill is EVIL and it did the remake reboot requel thing much better than 5.

2 was a bit phoned in I mean Debbie Salt and Micky are always missing and pop out always at the wrong time so in retrospect it wasn't so surprising but they nailed their parts, favorite killers along with Jill. Very dramatic and high octane final act.

1 was so obvious it was surprising lol On multiple views it's the one that thrills me the least. Yes the opening is the best and Tatum's kill is among the best in the genre but if it wasn't for Gale, Sid and Dewey the rest of the movie was too much in your face with the meta commentary, granted it was new at the time and what makes it timeless and iconic, the sequels did it better imho.

5 is a step back in any aspect of the franchise really...
apart from the marketing... they went IN with it

After watching 2 again, Richie really just seems like a second-rate Mickey. Almost the same motive, really, and came off about a third as crazy.

and not as hot. Loved how Mrs Loomis says her motive "isn't as 90s as Mickey's" LOL

Look, no offense, but we get it. You're about the boys. We're not trying to discuss that.

I agree with this. I cant remember right now but did the events of Scream 3 have any impact on the franchise? You can go from S2 to s4 and not miss a beat.

[Show spoiler] i read in S5 they mention Mark but dont specifically say Kincaid so looks like S3 still doesnt matter

Ya dislike Scream 3 that much??? In S4 Gail mentioned "i wrote the book on this, three times". So yeah, 3 is present.

So I havent seen S5 yet but from what ur saying it does bring in some elements from 3 to make it more relevant. Thanks for mentioning how it does it.

Was it it established in Scream 4 that Sid married Det. Kincaid? It's been a while, but I feel like I totally overlooked or just plain missed that.
