Default Scream 5 (January 14, 2022)

Dimension Films Teases Potential Fifth 'Scream'

Quote:
Released on April 15, Dimension Films' Scream 4, directed by Wes Craven, has pulled in a measly $36 million domestic ($87 worldwide), a far cry from what was expected on just the opening weekend.

I was a fan, it appears many of you were a fan, so it would be a shame to see the buck stop here. Thankfully, Dimension could be pre-selling a fifth film at this week's Cannes market.

"How much do you love @Scream4? How badly do you want #Scream5? Come up with a clever tweet and we'll RT!" exclaimed the official Dimension Films Twitter.

This obviously doesn't mean a fifth movie is in the works (it could be just some low level assistant building up Twitter followers), but it definitely some food for thought. Where would you like to see the franchise go from here?
Really happy everyone is happy with the BO intake that matters and isn't letting the low intake compared to predictions stop them from making a 5th as Bob has said he's happy with what it's made and Wes is ready for a 5th along with everyone else.

I thought Scre4m was a good entry in the series. I'm very interested to see what they had in mind for a new trilogy. It's rare that I enjoy a film in the Horror genre, so I'd hate to think this one wouldn't return.
I'm sure they are pinning some of their hopes to home video performance.

Interestingly - if you watch at Boxofficemojo - Insidious is performing better on weekends, but Scre4m ends up performing better during the week. Does this say something about the nature of the audience?

I also noted that at my prefered theater when I went (week 2 or 3) they had stripped Scre4m down to one 7:30 showing. Since the theater wasn't co-booked, I don't understand not running it again at 10:30, if not 5:30pm.

I think Henry Winkler should be the next killer. A zombie would be a new twist.

I haven't seen 4 but it hasn't even made its production cost back at the domestic box office. Seems as if they are better off rebooting the franchise.

le sigh. First, that's the plot of the movie. Second, reboots suck (which was the resolution of the movie).

THIRD:

Total Lifetime Grosses
Domestic: $37,083,589 42.6%
+ Foreign: $50,053,494 57.4%
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
= Worldwide: $87,137,083

The foreign BO paid for the budget.

Despite what some might deem tepid domestic box-office, I have to think that with worldwide grosses and home media sales, Scream 4 will pull in a profit. Plus, they couldn't have expected this one to hit with the force the original did due to the long layoff. But, my understanding is that Williamson had an idea for Scream 5 and 6. So, as long as he and Craven are involved, I'd be up for it.

[Show spoiler]Although I do think Scream 4 shot itself in the foot a little bit by making the only survivors the 3 main characters from the prior films. I really wanted to see Kirby in the next film.

EDIT: SpaceDog's numbers made my point for me on the profit side of things. Good work.

Gotcha. I just read how big of a domestic box office disapointment the film was. Predictors had it opening at 35-40 mil weekend and it hasn't crossed 40 yet after 4 weeks. Fyi wasn't hating and didn't even know the plot of it either.

I'm just wondering if the rewrites
[Show spoiler](particularly the finale in the hospital)
had any effect on what Kevin Williamson originally intended for parts five and six. Although I haven't heard anything definitive, I was under the impression that his idea had
[Show spoiler]Jill playing the role of The Final Girl in the fifth installment (at least).
Not quite sure how that would've played out but whatever.

If they do a fifth one, I'll be there. I just hope Kevin is able to see production through to the end so Ehren won't be allowed anywhere near it.

[Show spoiler]I honestly wondered until the end if they would focus the trilogy on a single killer, Jill

I'd love to see a part 5 (and 6), but I don't know how they could top the last one. What's the theme gonna be now?

I also can't think of what they could do for a 5th and 6th but Kevin say's he has a good idea for the 5th and 6th so it will be interesting to see where he takes them.

Man, this is nothing but good news today. Between this and Chuck most likely coming back, I'm a happy geek.

Really glad to see Scream 5 could be moving forward. I really liked four and welcome a new one. There is still so many places for them to go. Four really did feel like the beginning of a new trilogy.

Default Sidney the killer.

I think it would be great if they made Sidney the killer. That will never happen but it'd be awesome imo.

I really hope there is another one.

This time they need to release it in October and lower the budget to 30 mil.

If they do a part 5..
[Show spoiler].I wish they would have hidden the fact that Jill was one of the two killers and not given away the identity of the second killer. Have part 4 end with everyone knowing that one of the killers was still loose. Have her pulling the strings of the killer or killers in part 5 and then have her be revealed in part 6 as the one behind this new trilogy. That way she could try and replace Sidney as the last one standing.

Yeah she is, if you're not dating her. I thought it looked great for some reason when she wore the costume in Scream when she stabbed Billy. Plus it would be very unexpected for her to be the killer. I think that the killer(s) in the Scream films are too obvious. It would be a very nice change of pace.
