Hello everyone. Got my PS5 yesterday. I was waiting for price drop but seemed like it isn't gonna happen anytime soon so I thought to eventually get one. I have yet to open it. I have some questions please:
1) It has two modes. Performance and Resolution. Performance focusing on framerate while Resolution focus on graphics. But what about the Fidelity mode some people mention in youtube comparison video? What's the purpose of it? 2) I have a sony X900h that supports hdmi 2.1 VRR @120htz but if the PS5 is VRR supported yet? Also if enabling that mode will have graphics compromised? I am not a hardcore gamer so for me visuals are more preferred than fps so please let me know what settings shall I choose? 3) About my existing PS4 games (Physical and digital) will they play better on PS5 or will look the same? Is there any mode to enable to play PS4 games on PS5? 4) Does PS5 supports both Dolby Atmos and DTSX for 4k Blu Ray movies? 5) Also since I have no idea about the system so anything you want me to tell as a beginner I would highly appreciate that like tweaks or things I need to do to get maximum good experience from my PS5. These are my initial questions. I may need to ask more questions so I ll update this thread from time to time. Thank you. |

I'm no expert, but: 1. You don't have to set a mode if you don't want to. I don't. I just enter the game, and pick from there. I like to have direct control and not just let the console decide for me. I want more freedom so I don't set any modes in the PS5 console itself. If you set a mode, then the PS5 will go in and select that mode for each game unless you change it. Performance: Some games offer performance for 60 fps, sometimes 4K or less more often. Quality/Fidelity Mode: Basically the same thing, where it focuses more on graphics, reflections and resolution and less on frame rate. Some games will offer 3 modes, Performance, Fidelity, Quality. Fidelity sometimes being a mix inbetween the extremes. 2. I just use a standard HDMI cable to a basic 4K 60 hz TV and it works fine in any mode. 120 fps is extremely rare in games on PS5 and maybe for online shooters per game basis. There's no 120 fps mode in settings on PS5 as far as I saw. 3. No mode to make PS4 games look better. By default, the PS4 Pro or PS5 will allow for the highest frame rate allowed by the game, so 60 fps. Other games, absolutely require an update to take advantage of the PS4 Pro or PS5 consoles, and allow 4K and/or 60 fps. If I just put the disc in for Ghosts of Tsushima, it's a standard PS4 game. After updating, it became 60 fps 4K. 4. I don't know if supports those sound systems. But it played 2 UHD discs I have without issues. 5. Any advice? I'm a "just jump in and start playing" gamer, so all of this I would normally discover along the way. I don't read instructions anymore. ![]() Good luck and enjoy the pS5. There will be more actual PS5 focused games finally arriving in 2022, as 2021 was one of the worst droughts of console specific games. Most games were cross-generation understandably since most people still only have PS4s, due to resellers buying and hoarding most PS5s. One last thing. I attach a 4 TB external hard drive 3.1 USB to the back of my PS5 and can store PS5 games on there, and also PS4 games. The PS4 games are fully playable from the external drive, but PS5 games have to be moved back to the internal PS5 SSD to play again. |

I played Ghost of tsushima and Kena a little and both games look stunning really. Then I played the Unreal Engine 5 Matrix showcase and can see what hardware is capable of so as you mentioned we gonna see some great PlayStation 5 exclusive only in near future. I remember when PS4 came out the games didn't excite me that time too initially. I just got PS4 for Driveclub and then with time more and more ps4 exclusives started to release. About the external hard drive, well its a bummer that we need to copy game back to ps5 drive. I seen people upgrading their ssd but they are very expensive so I ll use a normal external hard drive and will move games to ps5 drive when to play a game. Usually how much time it takes for a game to copy from external hard drive to ps5 ssd? |

![]() 1. You have a choice. Either 4K/30 or “Dynamic” 4K/60 whenever there is a “choice” 2. The 900H doesn’t support 2160p@120. It supports 3840x1920p@120. So don’t touch VRR mode. It will disable local dimming hence make HDR useless. 3. Both. Some PS4 games will run at a locked 60, some will not. All will have loading time improvements. Everything else basically the same. 4. Yes. PS5 supports Atmos & dtsX but there is some settings from the app menu you need to change while a disc is actually playing. 5. Go to Accessories in System Settings & turn off Adaptive Triggers. While your in System Settings look for Rest Mode options. Turn all that off. Go to screen captures & broadcasts, turn off saved video clips & trophy clips. In System Settings go to System & under HDMI, turn off CEC. |

About 900h why there is so much fuss about vrr if it is not compatible? When I was looking to buy new tv I was advised by everyone to buy x900h since its PS5 future proof mainly because of upcoming VRR update. Can you please advise on this? About Atmos and DTSX that's a relief to know. I was reading everywhere that PS5 doesn't support that. About the tweaks why to disable adaptive triggers? Isn't this highlight of new controllers? And what is CEC under hdmi? |

It's possible to get a PS5 at retail. I got mine just by asking if the store had one. One, was in the back and the employee retrieved it.
Horizon Forbidden West looks and plays amazingly well. |

What you’re probably thinking about is the PS5 doesn’t support Dolby Vision. Why turn off Adaptive Triggers? The triggers have a cheap wire spring which can easily break. When the Adaptive Triggers are on, that same wire is constantly being used. Once it breaks, the triggers will basically become useless. System - HDMI Settings. You can find CEC there. Disabling it will make it so no 3rd Party Bluetooth device can navigate the PS5’s UI. |

![]() Actually you are robbing yourself by allowing the Triggers to fight you while you press them. ![]() In any case, mine work, never had issue. The spring is cheap though & there is only 1 spring. |

Well. You are extremely lucky. I paid about 250 extra USD to get my console and that was the best option from one hobby store. Other stores had more expensive prices and not to mention I was on a tight budget but there is no way to get PS5 at retail price where I live. Impossible.
