I am surprised so many really enjoyed Bumblebee. But that's cool, nothing against people enjoying a movie that they like.

The introduction was pretty cool on Cybertron, and then Bumblebee against Starscream, cool stuff! 8/10 so far. That is what I paid to see.
Then the film became E.T. for one hour and 30 minutes. Until finally, the last 20 minutes of the 1h53 minute film, they got to the point of the conflict the beginning of the film hinted at so strongly.

My main issue with Bumblebee? He lost his voice, but does that automatically make him act like a
[Show spoiler] dumb character, exploring how things like a blender works as if he was E.T.? I'm surprised he didn't go looking for Reese's Pieces in this kid's movie.

Clearly this movie wasn't made for me, as the last thing I want to see in a movie about Transformers is one of my favorite characters acting like a dummy, playing games, wasting lots of time hanging out with his human friend, and the story not progressing to what Transformers are all about. Conflict with Decepticons.

There was some conflict and hints of it, but only in the last 20 minutes and brief action scenes earlier that were too far in between.

Just not a fan of this film, along with the Transformers Bay films which are really about people first, then Transformers as supporting characters. I enjoy the animated original Generation 1 series too much I think to want to see them in some other format like this film, where Bumblebee acts like E.T.

2/5 or 5/10
I wouldn't have minded the whole E.T. discovery gimmick of the story if it was only the first half an hour. Instead, it was 75% of Bumblebee the movie.
I'll skip the sequel.

If one enjoys seeing a favorite Transformer acting like an alien discovering his new house and breaking things in it, and a girl and her car with an 80's music video soundtrack, you'll love Bumblebee.

I saw this on TV maybe 2 months ago, and was surprised by how much I liked it. It was much better than the first Transformers movie, and I never saw any of the other sequels.

This was a fun movie. The opening scene in Cybertron looked amazing. I liked the design of the Decepticons in this one.

In retrospect, the 4 star rating I gave the film was too much..............held up as well as wet tissue paper.

While I liked BB overall your points are mostly dead on. The movie veers off course quite a bit and pacing starts to suffer. The coming of age stuff is decent and has some solid moments but still feels out of place at times in a Transformer movie. I understand that movies do have to have some human characters to develop and. Are us care about or the movies might not work. But this one did go a tad too far.

Killer opening act though. This movie and the first Transformers movie are the only ones we watch. But they are certainly flawed.

Thanks. Having humans is fine, though it's better if the Transformers were the main leads for these Bay style films.
They're co-stars but most often, supporting stars, or in this case, Bumblebee is more like a cute pet dog for the girl, missing the point of what Transformers are all about for 75% of the film. Same with Shia and Mark Walhberg as the stars in the other films.

After that great intro on Cybertron, then the cool cliff battle with
[Show spoiler]Starscream,
my hopes were high. 30 minutes of the my pet monster thing would be fine, and then get right to the good stuff where the Decepticons
[Show spoiler]finally reach earth and find Bumblebee, attack and
then progress the story from there, where maybe Bumblebee has to reach a new goal to save the planet from even more Decepticons with the help of the girl, maybe have Optimus finally show up in the final act to help out.

I can't believe this movie
[Show spoiler] sliced Cliffjumper in half.

I hear ya - as I said, it veered way off course a little much and didnt know what it wanted to be. If you tuned in say at certain points you wouldnt even KNOW you were watching a Transformer movie and would instead think it was like a new version of One Tree Hill or whatever, lol. .

I hated ALL other Transformer movies though. The first and this one are OK but thats it for me.

Thanks Mikey. I agree. The Transformers and Transformations are cool, but make them the true stars, and humans be secondary characters; but that's not how Bay wanted it.
In the Bay produced TMNT live action CGI films, the Turtles are the true stars and I enjoyed both of those non-Bay directed films.

In one of the Transformers movies, I remember Shia was at his office job acting like an imbecile, or maybe it was the other co-worker, but I kept wondering during that scene, "Where are the Transformers? This movie is clearly about Shia and his over the top antics and screaming fits."

I think it would be amazing to see a Transformers movie set completely on Cybertron. If they could keep the look of the opening scene from Bumblebee it would be spectacular.

That would be incredible. It's the reason I bought the Bumblebee disc, after seeing that intro and hoping the film would deliver more of that. That was perfect stuff IMO and totally on target for what Transformers are all about.

I understand why they go to earth, but a movie set on Cybertron could be amazing in that style.

Assuming this isn't a April Fool's joke (it was posted yesterday), some new Rise of the Beast toys popped up over seas, with one featuring what was going to be Megatron's design in the 2018 Bumblebee movie. The toy itself is a evergreen model, but there are rumors that a Studio Series figure is in the works. This does not confirm Megatron will appear in Rise of the Beast as many other older toys are being repackaged into the ROTB line.
Originally Bumblebee was going to end with a shot of Megatron frozen in the Hoover Dam as shown in the 2007 movie. Early test screening leaks said he had a more G1-inspired design like much of the other characters in the movie. When it was decided to turn Bumblebee into a soft reboot, the scene was scrapped.

Yeah - the movie starts great and Im fine with the coming of age stuff for a while. It went on a tad too long though and became the center-focus of the film. Big time. Charlie is a cute character and Stenfield pulled it off fairly well. That sort of wore out its welcome though and I wanted more Transformers "stuff" in it.

Bumble Bee did get a little too "dumb" for me in this at times. Destroying the house was a tough scene to watch and came out of nowhere.

Loved the opening scene - its home theater demo material for those that have real 5.1, 7.1 or Atmos systems. . I liked the military story-line too with the tough decision to give them access to our networks in exchange for tech that could give us a "one up" on our enemies. That was all cool.

Still, the movie is watchable and is the only other Transformers film I own outside of the first one. They are an OK 1-2 punch, even if they dont feel that related.

It's the only film of the series that's bearable. Hailee's amazing in it , and the Transformers themselves look amazing and are portrayed respectfully.

Watch The Edge of Seventeen if you haven't yet. She's great in it as well and the movie deserved more attention than it got at the time.
