Default Transformers: Bumblebee (2018)

Quote:
It’s been widely reported over the past few months that Paramount Pictures is looking to expand their big screen Transformers franchise, pulling together a team of writers with the aim being to develop sequels and spinoffs set in the same cinematic universe as the four existing Michael Bay films. Today, Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner spoke at this year’s Global Consumer Conference and name dropped the Autobot Bumblebee as the potential focus for a spinoff feature.

“As we go forward, we would imagine several more Transformers Movies,” Goldner said (via TFW2005.com). “Not just in the current lineage but also spinoffs and focusing on certain key characters that are beloved by the world over. Many of you know Bumblebee; the yellow Camaro… formally known as a yellow VW Bug. He is a beloved character by kids all over the world. We could see stories told around Bumblebee and other characters. We are in a process of building the brand equity around the comic book business, our TV Business, our digital gaming business and adding to that our new movie business of Transformers.”

The new writing team currently includes “The Walking Dead” and “Invincible” creator Robert Kirkman, the Iron Man writing pair of Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, “Fringe” and “Lost” scribe Jeff Pinkner, X-Men: The Last Stand and The Incredible Hulk‘s Zak Penn and Andrew Barrer & Gabriel Ferrari, a duo that worked together rewriting Marvel’s upcoming Ant-Man. I Am Legend‘s Akiva Goldsman will lead the group, each member of which was selected by Bay and fellow producers Steven Spielberg, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

Previous reports have suggested that one of the potential titles in development is Transformers One, a prequel film set on the planet Cybertron, briefly seen in the first film of the series.

Last year, Paramount released the franchise’s fourth film, Transformers: Age of Extinction, starring Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz and Jack Reynor. When asked if he’d be back for a sequel, Wahlberg previously stated that he’s contracted for “a couple more.” It is also believed that Bay himself will return to helm Transformers 5 after he completes work on his Benghazi drama 13 Hours.

Age of Extinction grossed over $1 billion at the global box office with all four films combined grossing over $3.7 billion.

Rather see a Dinobots or Cybertron spin-off than one about Bumblebee.

Hmmmm. I like Bumblebee for the most part, but only as a supporting character, not a lead.

I'll still see the movie, for reasons of Transformers.

Agreed.
A Dinobot Spin-off would be awesome and unique enough to attract some of the crowd who has stopped watching the regular Transformers movies now.

He's not "announcing" a Bumblebee movie. He's explaining to investors that know nothing about the franchise that there are individual characters that they can explore. Bumblebee is the example given, but only because he's the only one with name recognition.

Optimus Prime
Starscream
Megatron
Grimlock
I'd even say to some extent Wheelie, Ratchet and Ironhide

Word broke earlier today that Paramount Pictures had set release dates for three more Transformers movies set to roll out annually beginning in June 2017. It was initially reported that these films would be the fifth, sixth, and seventh entries in the franchise, but new details have emerged regarding the blueprint of the Transformers films moving forward and reveal that, though there will be seven movies, one of them is in fact a spin-off.

Speaking on an investor conference call for Toy Fair, Tom Warner, the Transformers franchise leader for Hasbro, revealed that the announced 2018 film is not Transformers 6 but actually a spin-off film focusing on the character Bumblebee, with Transformers 6 actually being the 2019 release.

“This summer we worked closely with a talented team of A-list screenwriters to map out the future of the Transformers cinematic universe, and as Brian announced earlier, things kick off in a major way in 2017 with the release of Transformers 5 in June. And we’re working on a spin-off movie centered around Bumblebee for 2018 and the next chapter for 2019.”

The Bumblebee spin-off is currently set to debut in theaters on June 8, 2018, where it will clash with Legendary’s Godzilla sequel. There are currently no details on who will write or direct the film. The voiceless member of the Autobots, Bumblebee has become a fan favorite since his debut in the 2007 Transformers film with initial reports on a film of his own popping up last year.

Transformers 5, featuring a script by Iron Man scribes Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down), will be directed once again by Michael Bay and is set to crash into theaters on June 23, 2017, where it will open against Warner Bros.’ upcoming Wonder Woman movie. Mark Wahlberg has also confirmed he will return for the film.

How's a Bumblebee movie going to work? He's a good character but I doubt he has enough charisma to be the main protagonist of a movie.

He won't be alone, clearly. he's just going to be the main character as far as the Transformers characters go. He'll have to have a good supporting cast in both human and Transformers counterparts. In fact, it's kind of silly thinking they'd call it a Bumblebee spin-off considering other Transformers will still be in the movie...

Yeah, I find that weird. Unless Bumblebee is the only transformer in the movie and the rest are humans.

Maybe it will be kind of a prequel movie with flashbacks and everything or more Nicola Peltz in short shorts.

Kinda felt like the first half of Transformers 1 was a Bumblebee spinoff. Dunno how he's gonna carry a whole movie unless it's a prequel that ends with his voice getting destroyed.

Maybe the shared universe aspect of Transformers will be a series of prequels?

What you say? Another studio wants to pump out more useless spin-offs?

If any transformer should get his own spin off it's Optimus Prime.

Or the Twins...

Maybe they could do a Tailspin & Blast Off spin-off.

Love TF and BB, but I'll be giving my money to Legendary and Godzilla that weekend.

I wonder if he'll have an actual voice in this film or speak through his stupid-sexy radio the whole time.

I bet they'll all be more movies that have tons of Chinese actors and takes place partially in China just so that when the move does no money here in the states it'll make a crap ton of money in China so it still makes its billion bucks. Please, give us another great movie like the first one or stop making these! Maybe do another animated movie instead. Enough already! It's like they're dragging my childhood through the muck. Give me good Transformers! No more crap Transformers!
