On the other hand, if Robot Monster is being released without the involvement of Wade Williams III, they might be an ideal distributor. Presumably they will have a good legal representation.

Whatever the case, given the genre, subject matter and plot elements, the two films make for an interesting comparison, and will certainly appeal to much the same audience.

I'm pretty sure Wade Williams owns the copyright, as well as the OCNs, for Robot Monster. My understanding is that it cannot be released without his involvement.

I will add to that hope the fact that the guy who pulled the underhanded way of sneaking the rights out from under 3dFA has since been terminated!

3 questions,

1. if I remember you said scorpion/code red we’re not included on this deal?

2. Any 3d titles in this new deal?

3. Any titles that were previously not cleared that were now available?

Very excited for this deal. Love a lot of stuff from the MGM catalog. You guys are awesome!
1. Yes, no code red/scorpion co-releases this time around
2. Yes, one.
3. Yes, one.

I, The Jury (1953) not sure they own it as Bob previously said that it had a different rights owner.

Starchaser Legend of Orion ( can't be this one as they said no animation)

I doubt they would re-release Amityville 3d again...but who knows.
MGM does not own I, the Jury.

All the needed elements for both eyes are available for Southwest Passage.
So there's another 3-D film licensed from MGM for this new deal. It's probably Bwana Devil or Southwest Passage.

Wait a minute, Southwest Passage is not partially lost in 3D anymore? "All the needed elements for both eyes are available"? Where did this come from? When?

I’ve been saving that little nugget of amazing news but yes, the missing reels were found a couple of years ago in the UK. The complete left and right sides exist and it has not been seen anywhere in 3-D since a few scattered playdates in 1954.

Agreed 100%. The trick now is whether or not we will have an opportunity to restore it. Westerns traditionally perform poorly and that’s why I was pushing so hard for decent sales on WINGS OF THE HAWK and TAZA, SON OF COCHISE.

That's really tremendous news!

Even if it's from some beat-up or other source, and image quality isn't quite on the level of what can be pulled from the negative, I'm thrilled. Absolutely thrilled.

I very much hope Kino can secure this for you to work on at some point going forward. I don't suppose it's been seen in 3-D since the original, presumably very limited release.

I bought 2 copies of both titles! Hope that helps. .. Wish I'd had that policy when they were doing Paramount titles like Those Redheads and Sangaree, it would've really paid off.

Other than some slight color fade which we can correct digitally, the elements that were located of the missing reels are in fantastic condition!

Is there a sales goal that the other westerns have to meet for Southwest Passage to be considered?

Also, it seems like there is this weird push for Arch Oboler titles all of a sudden. Seems like we may get The Bubble roadshow, Domo Arigato, and Bwana Devil, plus some relevant special feature material, all in a relatively short time frame. I hope so, anyway. Might as well make it all come in one box from Kino.

Not sure if they can do that for films that belong to different rights holders. But I certainly wouldn't be disappointed if that were the case.

If not, I hope we get Bwana Devil first.

... it has an anniversary coming up.

Although other than The Bubble, I don't know that any of these have been confirmed exactly.

I have both of those goodies and will preorder any and all vintage 3D films going forward. We gotta keep the momentum going!

I doubt it all comes in one box, but the stars seem to be aligning. The Bubble Roadshow has been confirmed for a while. There was that image that looked like a test scan of Domo Arigato a couple months ago, and now Kino licensing an MGM title that's probably not Southwest Passage, plus the discovery of Colonel Berneir's 1951 test footage short, plus Mike Ballew diving so deep into Arch Oboler research that he feels like he knows the guy. That forum guy "Oboler" should be real happy, real soon.

I'd be happy with either Southwest Passage or Bwana Devil, but if I was going to pick just one, it would be Southwest Passage since a) it's a better movie and b) I've never seen it in 3D. Now, of course, if BOTH came out, then I'd be delighted.

Well we all read what Robert wrote. Westerns are not money makers. They can't restore these movies to resale if they don't make money. I'm sure they all like to eat just like the rest of us. I want to own every single one of these Golden Age 3D films but it's starting to sound like Southwest Passage would be way down on the list of restorations.

I bought two copies each of TAZA SON OF COCHISE & WINGS OF THE HAWK. If SOUTHWEST PASSAGE got a release I would do the same thing.
