My comment after seeing Second Chance at the World 3D Expo II was "this entire week has just been justified." It's a really great 3D movie.

Unfortunately, I believe it will never get out from under the iron boot of Time/Warne!

Fortunately, I have a DVD of it taken off of an official VHS from TCM.

Is this the same as The Diamond Wizard?

If not, can someone please post the correct trailer? TIA

The Diamond Wizard is simply an alternate title for The Diamond, as you correctly surmised.

And we will be the first to see it (other than maybe a 3D Film Festival) in 3D!

"By the end of 1953, interest in 3-D was quickly declining and these features were released only flat: Dragonfly Squadron, Jivaro, The Command, Top Banana, The Diamond Wizard, The Bounty Hunter and Son of Sinbad."

If the 3DFA is encountering vinegar syndrome with Robot Monster's elements, I bet that Hannah Lee and Cat-Women of the Moon are in the same exact state. If their new distribution partner can deal Wade Williams for access to those negatives as well, I bet we will see them follow soon after as time-sensitive releases.

I, The Jury 3D will screen on 4/22 at the TCl Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, CA, as part of the Turner Classic Movie Festival.

I’m guessing the film is in a similar rights situation as The Glass Web, and thus we shouldn’t take this as a sign that a 3D Blu-ray is incoming. Right Bob?

Thanks for the info! Will definitely be there. This one is my personal holy grail after seeing it once before in 3D at the Egyptian. Not holding out hope for a 3DBR.

I’d buy a ticket to fly out from Ohio, but I can’t get off work on less than a month notice

Might not be worth the risk anyway. They're only selling festival passes in advance, and the cheapest one that includes the I, The Jury 3D screening is $849. They'll only sell $20 individual tickets the day of the screening, if there's any seats left after passholders are seated, and if there's a covid surge, they'll halt individual ticket sales entirely.

I suspect the TCM Festival's clientele are mostly older folk, so they're being extra careful.

The site says it's digital. So hopefully it'll be making the circuit (MOMA, Film Forum, Quad, AFI Silver)

So I, the Jury has a 3D DCP now? That's great news! Let's get it on a disc.

Not sure who Ignite Films is, but somehow they have access to Wade Williams' catalog as well.

They were responsible for a couple nice Randolph Scott Cinecolor restorations a few years ago. The Cariboo Trail (1950) and Canadian Pacific (1949). Both blu-rays are out of print.

A court in Amsterdam ruled that Ignite Films have the worldwide rights to Invaders from Mars. Ignite had acquired it in the mid 1990s as part of a library of films from Richard Rosenfeld.

This came up a few years back on HTF

Wade later responded that Rosenfeld had sold him the rights to Invaders from Mars many years earlier. Wade claimed that he would have restored the film and licensed to Criterion, except the Ignite Films ruling scared them off! According to him, Ignite Films were the ones to blame for its lack of availability, that they forced him to delay the film's restoration.

A fascinating thread, full of conflicting information and drama. The rights are contested, but it would seem that this time Ignite Films felt confident enough in their position to proceed. They hold the original camera negative, so it will look better than if it were scanned from the material Wade holds.

Invaders from Mars will be on the radar of many classic 3-D fans, as for years it would turn up on lists of Golden Age 3-D films. Bad information unfortunately, addressed on the 3-D Myths page at 3DFA. It may also be of interest to note that it was directed by William Cameron Menzies, whose next film would be The Maze in 3-D, and produced by Edward L. Alperson, who would later produce the 3-D September Storm.

Before doing THE MAZE, Menzies directed two segments for Sol Lesser’s 3-D FOLLIES.

I wonder if Ignite Films is going to turn out to be the unknown distributor for "Robot Monster" that we've all been speculating about???

Sounds like a "No", if they are the "true" copyright owner of Invaders from Mars. I doubt Wade Williams is making any deals with them.
