No kidding right? I'm curious to hear who all of these people actually do like as far as comedians. I'm envisioning a bunch of 70-something year olds who long for the days of George Burns and Bob Hope...

If you read the thread very carefuly you will notice that while some may not like certain comedians, they are actualy liked by others. Not everyone hate's everyone, let's not make broad statements but the thread is all about who each member does not like so of course the posts will be negative in nature.

I don't see how you could say Adam Sandler failed. Perhaps you disliked Punch Drunk Love or Spanglish, but have you seen Reign Over Me? Reign Over Me was a truly emotional movie, largely due to Adam Sandler's performance. Jim Carrey was great in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Ferrell in Stranger then Fiction... Bill Murray in Lost in Translation... Marlon Waynes in Requiem for a Dream... There are plenty of examples of comedians who turned to serious roles and totally nailed a performance. |

Oddly enough, the only Myers movie I've even considered buying was The Love Guru, widely regarded as a suck fest. Maybe I like it because they had a "Tonawanda street" in the movie. Reno blows, The State RULED!!! (entire series coming in July to DVD) Eddie Murphy's Delerious was classic, but Raw sucked and I don't hold his 'films' in any regard. Cera routinely rips off Chester... see previous posts for links. Sadly, he may be this generation's Ben Stiller... |

Steve Carrell was last funny in Bruce Almighty. Listen, I'll laugh at almost anything...if it's funny. But when the joke is almost always delivered the same, even if the joke is different, as with Carrell and Cera, it's just gets boring. I'll even watch Family Guy, even after watching that SP episode. I don't care how or why it's funny, but if I'm laughing, I'm fine. Which is why I always laugh at Jim Carrey. And just so everybody knows, like more comedy than I don't, and hardly intended this thread on being a "bash everyone" thread, but oh well

I'm so glad this thread was made. Michael Cera's awkwardness was hilarious on Arrested Development and even worked for the most part in Superbad (balance to Jonah Hill), but I absolutely hate how he has been stuck with the same gig in every other movie now because he CAN be pretty funny. Or maybe not, I don't know, he still has that same softspoken voice when he swears (Bale flipout, Knocked Up audition). He's on thin ice now between awkward comedic actor and teen heartthrob. Arrested Development & Superbad vs. Juno & Nick and Norah, I hope he rebounds. I think the genre of awkward comedy and the Apatow discussion-based movies is fading because of overuse, unfortunately him and Carrell are good at this style. Jim Carrey has always made me laugh but now that he's getting older his style seems borderline annoying (that Red Bull bit in Yes Man, for example). Dumb & Dumber and Ace Ventura are gold as far as I'm concerned. Last edited by Mike53421; 06-18-2009 at 02:07 PM. |

Dane Cook. Rarely funny to me.
I liked My Best Friend's Girl and Good Luck Chuck (he had some help there). I just don't really dig his stand-up. I grew up on Sam Kinison and Eddie Murphy stand-up records though, so it takes a bit more to get me there. There will never be another Sam. |
