I'm with Geoff on this one. It doesn't reinvent the wheel, or even add new spokes to it - just makes the whole thing more ergonomic.

The sound effects remain the same, but they now fill out the Atmos sound-field very nicely. The voice of Gozer rather disconcertingly comes from the height speakers, convincingly booming overhead when asking the guys to "chose the form of the Destructor". I watched the 4K for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and the whole experience was the most fun I'd had watching Ghostbusters in a long time.

And that’s the thing about whizz-bang remixes: it’s not that they automatically make me burst into flames upon hearing them, it’s whether they attempt to retain the original sonic character of the audio while expanding and enhancing or whether they just throw it all out and start over. Sony’s Atmos remixes are better than most in that regard but when silly errors creep through like the botch at the end of Spider-Man it makes me so thankful that the OG audio - or if not OG then a respectful older 5.1 remix - is also on there.

Sony never did repress or repackage the 5 disc steelbook edition so it wouldn't be surprising if Sony decides not to repress or repackage this new set.

Aerodynamic would have been a better for the wheel analogy, but it was coming up to 1am, and the combination of Codine and cough syrup put paid to that one.

Anyone think Sony will release these as single releases?

I'm I correct that the newer version in the box set has DV and better image quality for 1 and 2?

Edit: Looks to be very little image quality difference between the new and old 4k disc.

Slight uptick in detail for the most part. Also get the mono tracks which unfortunately were botched by Sony.

I would assume we’ll get individual releases at some point down the line. 2024 is the big 40th anniversary of the first film so that would be the perfect opportunity for Sony.

To my surprise, I just received package from SPHE Support. Inside was a replacement slip cover for Afterlife. It was shipped over an empty 4K amray case. I had sent Sony an email shortly after I received my munched up copy of Ghostbuster Ultimate Collection. I complained that beside the damaged box, I was missing the Afterlife slipcover. Everything else was ok (proper discs and working lights). mNever heard back, even acknowledging they received my email. In meantime I repaired the packaging to a point that it was acceptable, especially as it seemed that a replacement was never coming. Then out of the blue I got the slip cover. Better than nothing I guess.

Funny. I received this week the replacement disc for Ghostbusters 1 4K, but also had the missing slip problem for Afterlife. However, they sent a copy of the special features digipack (?) and not the Afterlife slip... Very glad to get the disc, but it's kind of bittersweet that they didn't send the slip as well.

I received a "Special Features" digi containing "Ghostbusters II" 4K (I didn't check yet, but assume the exact same faulty disc I already have), but were there people with missing Ghostbusters II discs? That would at least explain something.

But: Sony, wtf are you doing?

Yeah, I think people were getting two copies of one movie and not the other, some got two of the first one, some got two of the second one?

Just for the record: dialogue from the rears with Dolby Pro Logic - just went right to the practical test instead of comparing ring numbers... Not that I did expect anything else.

Just sent them a thank you anyway and asked for an update in case of any update on my actual issue, but I think that's the end of the story.

A Ghostbusters Day Double Feature is coming to movie theaters on June 8. It will consist of Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) (no Ghostbusters II ).

So far AMC is the only chain to have added it to their website but other chains should be adding it to their websites in the near future.

Hello,

I received my collection to have the first disk not play correctly. I emailed sony for a replacement and was told I’d get one….this was back in late march. Has anyone else been waiting forever for a replacement disk? I’ve sent 2 follow up emails asking if there is a problem or anything else i need to do and had no reply.
