His 360 has died on him one time and that was replaced. But his PS3 in less than 8 months has now failed 3 times what is up with these things? I am glad I didn't pick one up when he got his. It seems to try to boot up then just goes silent and the light goes red and flashes. Has anyone else had this happen yet?
If this is a legit question and not some comment tryng to spread FUD, then your father has been extremely unlucky. The PS3 has a very, very, very low failure rate...some say less than 1%.

Can it be a problem with his electrical. It seems odd that he keeps going through systems. A power conditioner/high end surge protector could help with this if it is indeed an electrical issue.

LOL ya no kidding he is getting very fed up with it and teh Best Buy he got it from has now told him to ddeal with Sony about the problem as they can't do anything to help him. Sony told him 6-8 weeks turn around for his system to be repaired and sent back to him. They won't replace it they are only going to repair it. Needless to say he is very unimpressed.

He runs it through an APC battery backup along with his 50" DLP and home theatre none of which have had any issues at all. It is just his PS3 a few guys at work have had this issue but only one time since then no problems.

Had mine since March. It's on several hours a day playing games, DVDs and Blu-rays. Not one problem here.

I'm sorry, but the fact that he is on his 3rd makes me believe that its him, and not the PS3s. The possibliltys are very unlikely.

does he keep it in a very warm place? thats the only reason they pack up is if they overheat, and you have to try very hard to get that to happen

Actually is on it's own unit out in the open air in the basement/tv room like I said his 360 packed it in on him one time to his PS3's 3 times and they sit on teh exact same type of unit out in the open. Under the cabinet is his storage for the games and his movies but the consoles sit on top not in an enclosed area which is what I asked him the first time it happened. Even his Wii has had no issues. Yes he is a gamer and loves all things video games.

Yeah they did those studies where the 360 had over a 30% failure rate while the Wii and PS3 were under 1%.

I've had mine for a few months now, and I had the picture drop out twice, and that was the only hiccup I've had with it... My 360 on the other hand... I can't even count the problems on there.

My Wii is the same never a hiccup or anything at all the thing is rock solid and plays on no matter how long we leave it on and it is on for hours and hours a day.

Ah another I am calling somone a liar posts inda like HMJJ or whatever his name is on here. I am glad people look at a post openly and not through blue or red coloured glasses on here. Some people are so caught up in this war that they have a jaded view on anything other that praise for their specific format of choice.

I have had my PS3 since December and have had only two minor hiccups one the picture fell out and two was one game froze up on me. But other than that my PS3 is performing at tip-top shape. IMO it is the most reliable piece of equip. i have ever owned thus far.

That's got to be frustrating, to say the least.

I have had the occasional screen hiccup when launching a BD, DVD or game...but a quick eject and reload takes care of that. Once or twice I had to reboot when it froze. But that's usually after I've had it on all day or fallen asleep with it on after having it on all day watching movies, then just leave it on & watch more when I wake up.

Well it's aparent what your anbgle is when you check the post history.

1. Your name includes "blu" in it yet you're clearly not a fanboy of the format
2. You chime in legitimately to call a stunt "childish" though you seldom post otherwise.
3. You chime in to critique the critique of the lack of HD DVD burners.
4. You critique the idea that blu-ray will survive over VOD and downloadable content.
5. You say you got an HD DVD laptop because the blu-ray one was too expensive and your wife wanted to get your 6 and 10 yr old an HD equipped laptop.
6. Then you chime in to say you like having 2 discs over a single disc in support of HD DVD.
7. Now your dad has the buggiest PS3 ever created?

With all of this how am I to really believe you're not pulling a covert troll? I can't buy any of this.

Cool In all seriousness..........

Have your father contact Sony. Either he is doing something HORRIBLY wrong or he has the WORST luck ever. Have you seen the PS3 torture test article? If that can't make it fail I can't believe that anything can (of course they can fail but the failure rate is like .02%).
