Default PS3 Problems...

Of course, when I order like 10 movies, my PS3 has problems. When I play a movie, the thing starts freezing and rewinding or fast forwarding at random spots. It's only with movies/blus, no games.

Anyone have a solution that DOESN'T involve sending my PS3 in to Sony and losing it for a month?

PS...it's not the disk, I've tried several.

Do you have the latest firmware? Also try a reboot by turning off with the switch on the back. Could not hurt to unplug it for a few seconds as well. Lastly call sony support.

Have you updated the firmware? I would also try removing the power for ~60sec (unplug) on the PS3 to completely reset the unit. See if that helps...

i would suggest trying this as well. a very odd problem you're having...

maybe your gf/so/wife is messing with another remote/ps3 controller because youve been watching too many blu-rays lately and not spending enough time with them

Is your PS3 in a case? If it is in a case and the case is enclosed, then your problems may be the result of your PS3 over heating in an enclosed case. Point the end where it vents towards the opening of the case door and see if that helps. It helped for me.

Best post I've read since I been here.

Anyway, I have had very small problems here and there but that one sounds bad dude. I would say to make sure its not possibly overheating by the time you pop a movie in. Other than that it sounds like a legitimate problem. You may have to send it in dude. 8(

It's under settings, and if you click on System Update, it'll tell you if you have the most current version. I think the most recent one is 2.53, download this and it will install it. When you get to the part where it asks you if you want it to turn off the ps3 automaticallly when finished, DON'T click this. Just select the restart option, some people have problems when they select the other option

Also, my ps3 remote acts weird sometimes too, I just take the batteries out real quick and put them back in and it works fine after that

Brianbags is your PS3 connected to the internet via Lan or Wireless? If not you can go to: http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/SystemUpdates/PS3
to get the latest firmware update (2.53), you will need a flash drive or memory stick to transfer it to your PS3. You will also find the instructions on this page also.

Ok...well I already had the latest update. Whoops...I always click restart automatically.

I called Sony and they said that if restoring the settings didn't work (which it didn't), then I would have to send it in. Don't wanna do that so I then unplugged it for 30 seconds and watched a full episode of Lost with no problems. Hopefully it keeps up...

I have had a few occasions where certain remote functions would happen on their own. I believe it has something to do with bluetooth interference. Luckily, in my case, it just presses the Triangle button on it's own, whereas it sounds like it's pressing the L/R buttons for you.

Try removing or turning off one wireless device at a time until it stops to narrow it down.

Ok, so i have a launch 60 GB, and I have had this happen to me when i use a ps3 controller to watch movies, it will bring up the menu randomly (triangle) and jump forward randomly.

The solution i found:

Turn off the ps3 controller when watching the movie, and if u have one use the PS3 blu-ray remote ($24 i think) and it should solve your problem.

Easy way to see is start your movie that fast forwarded randomly and while the movie is running hold down the ps button and select turn off remote, if it doesn't randomly skip then it was the controller, just like mine.

Hope this helps!

Just turn off your controller. I noticed the controllers are VERY sensitive during movies. If my control barely moves on my bed, the movie will skip chapters or whatever. Just turn off your control, turn off the lights, and turn up the volume. Hope that works.

My buddy had to send his PS3 in a year ago. Believe it or not, he received his PS3 about in 8 business days.

All friendly,

Luc
