This film really just confirms my opinion that along with Villenueve, Kosinski is one of the best directors for Blockbusters working in Hollywood today. The fact that both have been able to successfully revive some 80's properties (Dune and Blade Runner for Villenueve; Tron and Top Gun for Kosinski) is just one reason, because a lot of others have tried and failed with other 80's films.

Although, I think my favorite films form both have been original films they did. Arrival, which is one of the best original sci-fi films from the last decade, and Only the Brave, which had such a great story and fantastic performances that it really deserved more award recognition that year.

Yes, Kosinski certainly has a knack which sets him apart. I believe he can visualize what potential viewers of his films will want to watch and shoots accordingly. For that and other reasons, 45 minutes into his films will seem more like half an hour. That is why I feel that he could try extending his action sequences a little bit; even if the film turns out to be 20 minutes longer than average, he has the knack to make it NOT to seem overlong.

For example, just after Sam Flynn has entered the Digital World in Tron: Legacy, Kosinski gives us only a very brief glimpse of the surroundings, which are nevertheless spectacularly imaginative. I would have liked to see 3 or 4 minutes of him running around in confusion amidst the digital structures before Clu's "Recognizers" arrive to capture him. Likewise, things move too fast once Sam arrives at the Games. A bit more footage of the digital arena and the "audience" would also have added to the surreal atmosphere. Then, perhaps a few more minutes in Kevin's hideout before getting away in his father's older Lightcycle.

Back to TG:M, if he was under pressure for movie length, the bar scenes could easily have been shortened by a few minutes without losing the intended personal touch. Those few minutes and others could have been added to the action scenes. Excellent though they already are, the build-up to and the actual bombing run could have been even more spectacular if Kosinski had allowed a few more minutes IMO.

It's official: Tom Cruise (Top Gun Pete "Maverick" Mitchell) is bigger than Johnny Depp (Pirate Captain Jack Sparrow). Mission accomplished, period! Congrats to all for a job well done @ the movie magic.

Considering Disney pretty much told Johnny Depp to drop dead I'm glad to see them lose this record.

Just want to add 'Sicario' (Denis Villeneuve), for the cinematography (Sir Roger Alexander Deakins) and the music score.
...And the cinematography and the music in 'Prisoners' (2013) by Jóhann Gunnar Jóhannsson; the same music composer in 'Sicario' (2015) and 'Arrival' (2016)
Jóhann Gunnar Jóhannsson is from Iceland.

* 'Tron: Legacy' (2010) by Joseph Kosinski ('Top Gun: Maverick) is a top gun (((3D))) movie with an awesome music score by Daft Punk and excellent cinematography by Claudio Miranda (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Life of Pi, Oblivion, Tomorrowland, Only the Brave, Top Gun: Maverick) Claudio Miranda is from Chile.

Kosinski and Villeneuve are both top gun directors working with top gun cinematographers and top gun music composers, and the full crews. Just ask Penton ... and Bob

I have to say I enjoyed this film much more than I thought I would. Its slightly more serious than the first, but that's not a bad thing; Maverick's older and has had to learn some tough lessons since the events of the original film. I also liked the scene with him and Iceman; Val Kilmer sold the sincerity of that moment in spite of his vocal loss. I also liked Jennifer Connelly as Penny Benjamin, constantly keeping Maverick on his toes. All in all, a solid 9/10, taking away a single point for language.

very disappointed in the score outside of the Harold Faltermeyer themes. I've defended the Zimmer machine before but now their music is so ridiculously generic it is amazing

I invented it because both are making the news nowadays, big time, and both compete for that Memorial Day long week-end @ the box office. ...Nothing else...it's all in the Hollywood movie fun.

Saw it twice in theaters on opening day and today in downtown Vegas for memorial day with my date.

Easily my favorite movie of the year with The Batman and Sonic 2! this is one of those revivals of an 80s classic movie property done the right way like Blade Runner 2049, Dark Crystal Age of Resistance and Cobra Kai where it's a passion project and treats the franchises with respect and dignity even beloved characters and isn't a lazy crap passionless moneygrab like Ghostbusters (2016), Robocop (2014), Elm Street (2010) etc. And I've been a fan of the first since i was 5 years old seeing it twice in theaters.

I applaud the writers and directors who are huge fans of the 1986 classic giving Maverick himself the proper respect as it should be, and him having a redemption arc. I'm glad they didn't throw in any Last Jedi/Bill and Ted Face the Music/Scream 5 deconstruction nonsense of turning Maverick into a loser like Hollywood lately had turned beloved cinematic heroes like Luke Skywalker, Bill and Ted and Dewey, no this movie was made by actual fans for the fans.

It was a very nice moment where Iceman meets Maverick after so long despite him having issues with throat like Val Kilmer is in real life. Maverick is easily the best character in the film and it remains true to him. Cruise still has the same charm and charisma as always and there's fantastic stunts, use of practical effects with minimal CGI, real location filming and Jennifer Connelly is quite lovely in this movie.

It's well paced, entertaining and most important of all: no SJW/woke lecture/agenda feast nonsense as it seems Sonic 2, Quiet Place 2 and this movie are major hits for Paramount and should give Paramount a big wake up call that audiences want pure entertainment which makes big bucks and while SJW/woke agenda pandering crap like Terminator 6 flops. Looks like things are having a right direction as entertainment is finally coming back and woke is slowly dying a poisoned death as woke has finally got the backlash it receives as the masses have waken up as they had enough SJW/woke crap and will die out eventually in the middle of the decade and entertainment is what matters to the masses.

This is one of those examples of pure entertainment this year and a sequel done right of honoring and respecting the first movie and it's beloved cinematic hero Maverick as studios should take notes from this movie, Blade Runner 2049 and Cobra Kai of treating cinematic heroes the right way instead of the opposite for agenda.

After seeing the early access showing this past Tuesday in XD, I’ve decided to make the trek and watch the film at an AMC.

My question, however… Dolby Cinema or IMAX (technically LieMax)?

Just got out from seeing this. Really enjoyed it, and a great example of how a sequel can build and expand on an original film.
