I have to say this film has done something incredible. Not only has it created something that sits perfectly alongside an original made 30 years prior but it has also somehow elevated that original movie in a weird way. I feel like I will enjoy the first film more now because of the quality of this one if that makes sense at all!

I know exactly what you're talking about. The same situation happened with me with The Shining and Doctor Sleep. Even though I've always loved The Shining, Doctor Sleep made it even better for me.

I was 5 when it came out, so grew up with it. Always liked it as a cheesy 80s staple but never thought it was high art which if course its not. But Maverick allows you to rewatch it now with a wider understanding and let's you know that characters such as Goose and Ice Man will resonate 30 years later.

I actually loved Dr Sleep (director’s cut), it might be controversial but honestly just as much as ‘The Shining’. I actually watched a double bill of these films and thoroughly enjoyed them. The directors cut really fleshed the characters out.

Same for me. Despite it being right up my alley, I never got MUCH into the hype of the original, but Maverick has made my appreciation for it grow.

Lightyear was supposed to get all the IMAX showings this weekend. But with its soft opening, I see the IMAX closet to me doing two Lightyear showings, two Jurassic World, and a 7pm Maverick show this weekend

So do you think Cruise has already turned down the studios request for TG3 or will that happen in the next couple weeks? Or do you think Tom will think it an incredible opportunity to have a billion dollar franchise ongoing that doesn't require the extremes of MI?
