This should work

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08XQW7SKF

My sub is placed on top of these to minimise vibration thanks to poor insulation of my walls.

Managed to get BestBuy to price match this yesterday when it was still in stock.

This will hopefully be a good upgrade to my Sony X800 since that machine seems to constantly freeze on me, forcing me to crouch under my console unit to unplug it and restart.

I installed a Panasonic DP-UB820P Blu Ray player and connected it to a Denon AVR 3700 via 4K HDMI cable. The Denon connects to a Samsung LSP9T via 4K HDMI.

Panasonic home settings image fills the screen perfectly. The infamous FBI warning screen shows perfectly before the movie. However, when the movie starts (4K Blu Ray, Blu Ray or DVD) the image is several inches wider than the screen.

When I play the same 4k Blu Ray, Blu Ray or DVD on my PS5 the image fits the screen perfectly. I also have no problems when streaming from my 4K Firestick.

Panasonic 820 settings:

Resolution: Auto
4K60P Output: 4K/60p(4:4:4)
24P Output: Off
HDMI Video: Auto
HDMO Audio: Audio Only
Dolby Vision: Off (My Samsung projector doesn't support it)
HDR10+: On

I am sure there is a setting on the 820 to fix this but I've yet to figure it out.

Suggestions? Your help is greatly appreciated!
The Panny player literally has no aspect ratio controls/settings. At all. But are you talking about black letterbox bars or something else?

Try changing the resolution to straight 4K. That might help. Or it's possible it's in your Denon's Settings. As Geoff said, there is no aspect ratio setting on the Panny Player. It's either an issue with the Denon's settings or your Samsung's TV settings.

I would also try plugging your player straight into your TV to see if it changes the image. If it does, you know it's your TV. If it doesn't, you know it's probably something to deal with the receiver.

Hello, not much to add, but I just want to thank those who monitor and reply off this thread. I read through many many pages before I bought my UB820 and was happy I did not need to ask a single question since they were all answered by people here.

WOW! Great price. Too bad I missed it. I had to return my 820 because it was defective. Stupid Walmart would not send me a replacement.

Anyone sort this out or is this expensive player a complete junk when it comes to DV?

My 820 was annoyingly loud and ran constantly. I posted a video on here and the majority said it was defective so I sent it back. I plan to pick up a 9000 before the price increase.

I say go for the 820 if you can find it on sale. If you want the better construction then go 9000 which should be a lot quieter.

For any Canadians on here, Visions has open box ub9000 for $988 cad, shipped. Given these are not available in store I am guessing they are from the distributor. They also have open box ub820 for $398 cad, but in store only (and oddly with an end date of June 30).

Just have to say, I got my player yesterday and found it a breeze to set up and use.
Slightly zippier than my Sony X800 and played every disc I threw at it so far.

I even think it looks sharper and has slightly more pop than the Sony.

Used HDR optimizer and noticed it did wonders to soften the brightness of Close Encounters.

Hope it doesn't develop any freezing issues as time goes on.

Had the first Quasar VHS HiFi and the player’s spinning heads would cause the glass tabletop to buzz like crazy.

Got the 820 last week. Playing my first Blu-Ray now. I don’t want to convert it to 4K. Doesn’t seem to have a Direct mode. Used to have Sony X700.

I changed Resolution from Auto (4K) to 1080p. Anything else that I should do.

Using an Epson EH-TW8300, similar to 5040.

Are you sending the video to an outboard image processor? If not, the upscaling is pretty decent in the Panasonics, all except for DVD upscaling.

Otherwise, you will have to manually set the player to 4k or auto for 4k Blu-ray discs, and then switch back to forced 1080p mode for standard Blu-ray's, each and every time.

Thanks.

Sending it directly to the projector. Also turned off Image Enhancement and Frame Interpolation on the projector.

Will give upscaling a chance later; lots seem to like it.

That includes me. The 9000 is the only player I have where DVDs are actually watchable on a 75" display. That includes the Oppo players, the 83, 93, 203. I haven't adjusted any settings on the players. They are still at factory default. But now I find myself watching old DVD's, such as Westerns (Gunsmoke and Have Gun Will Travel) on my 8K Sony, and they look just fine. I'm amazed actually.

To me the player is worth it just for bringing my DVD collection back to life. If only it weren't for the auto shut off after 15 minutes of pause, and the lack of on screen time display. A minor inconvenience, but I'm used to those on the Oppos.

I have an Oppo 203 and would definitely consider buying the Panny if it does a better job with upscaling DVD content (DVDs IMO are basically unwatchable on my projector right now IMO).
