I would unplug it from the strip and plug it directly into the wall to see if that will help. If it does, then it's the power strip and you will need to replace it. Some of those power strips are cheap and can lose its efficiency after awhile.

I might also add that you shouldn't constantly unplug it when not in use. It's best just to keep it plugged in. It doesn't use a lot of electricity.

The UB820 is currently on sale for $406 at Amazon. Nice timing since my old LG UHD player just went on the fritz.

What gives? Isn't there one UHD disc player that works flawlessly?

I had read something a couple of weeks ago that some discs from the Anthology set started to brick out due to rot. I just watched Aliens on my Sony x800M2 and it played perfectly. Granted, my Alien Anthology is the UK BD import. I read that the issue was limited to the USA release.

Ended up getting an 820 this week to add to my arsenal. So far, the the hype is justified. It's a great player. The UI is clunky but small price to pay for the rest of its capabilities.

I am not sure how you know it is pristine but you don't want to assume it is just by looking at it. Sometimes discs can pick up invisible or microscopic residue left over on the case from manufacturing. You need to give it a wet clean with ordinary soap and water, I usually then just shake off the excess then let it air dry (to make sure I am not rubbing more stuff onto it with a towel).

Is there a fan inside the 820?
Never heard/noticed it in three years.
I do hear the fan inside my Onkyo receiver though. When it is active, that is.

UB9000 is very quiet.

I tried playing some 4K UHD discs on both PS5 and Xbox Series X, but they are both awfully noisy.

Look at my UB9000.
I've jammed it in. It never heats up and I never hear the fan.

Component prices, labour prices and shipping costs from China have all increased significantly. The fact the player's design has been out for 4 years has no bearing on this.

Is there a way to disable HDCP on the 820? I’m running into some issues when hooking this up to a projector and I suspect HDCP is the culprit..

You can change between HDCP 1.4 and 2.2, not sure if it can be disabled. You wouldn't get 4K HDR out of it without 2.2 however, though if going into a projektor that may not be an issue.
