8-Tracks making a Comeback

In most audio circles 8-Tracks get a bad rap However there are still many fans of the 8-Track medium and on ebay certain tapes will still sell for 100's of dollars.



Did you know 8-Track Tapes have a higher sound quality than cassette tapes? The Cassette Tape was more versatile and compact than 8-Track tapes however the sound from an 8-Track Tape provides a higher quality of sound.

I don't know why the 8 tracks would be collectable if you wanted to play them. I had plenty back in the 70s and the reliability sucked. I can't imagine that tapes over 40 years old would still work for long. Anyone have any experience with playing these tapes now?

I have plenty of experience playing tapes now, the first thing I do when I buy a tape is have the pad and splice replaced, after that they tend to sound really good and I personally have not has any issues with playback or reliability.

I've collected 8-tracks and there was a bump in the 90s, but they are by no means "making a comeback" right now. Yes, I've seen a few artists releasing a very limited 8-track alongside their new album on the usual formats, but that's more for novelty than a comeback. Also, I don't see a reason to have 2 threads for this here.

Silly hipsters. First vinyl, then cassettes, and now 8-tracks. Only hipsters listen to those formats.

I hate 8 tracks...aaaand yet I was one of the few to score Book, the latest They Might Be Giants album on the format. Haven't played it yet but I will (presuming one of the two players I have still works).
