Sony Pictures A Man Called Otto (2023) - Sony Pictures

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will be releasing this later this year.

Quote:
Based on the comical and moving # 1 New York Times bestseller, A Man Called Otto tells the story of Otto Anderson (Tom Hanks), a grumpy widower who is very set in his ways. When a lively young family moves in next door, he meets his match in quick-witted and very pregnant Marisol, leading to an unlikely friendship that will turn his world upside-down. Experience a funny, heartwarming story about how some families come from the most unexpected places.

I saw this opening day and really enjoyed it. Hanks has always been a wonderful actor and really carries the film. Although it's a comedy it's also somewhat depressing. Recommended viewing.

I saw it yesterday afternoon. The show wasn't packed, only about 20 something people. When the song was playing during the ending credits, I couldn't hold back my tears, and I wasn't the only one

After hovering around 4th place on the US Boxoffice Chart for two weeks, I noticed on this last Friday that it had "climbed" into 3rd place. I'd say that it has found its audience and is doing well for a film that doesn't have a superhero or super villains in it.

Does anyone know if this is region A locked? I want to import it to the UK as it seems that we're only getting a DVD copy released here.

I won't be picking this up if it's not on UHD (disc).
This makes me sad, but it is what it is.
Might pick it up cheap one day - in the far off future.

Missed it in theaters, but was able to pick this up yesterday. Hopefully my wife and I will watch it sometime this weekend.

The case says it's Region A locked, and Sony has been doing weird region locking of first-run titles for several years now, so I would assume it is indeed locked.

While there won't be a UK release, there will be an Australian release, which seems that it will be identical to the German and Italian discs:

Thank you. I think I'll put an order in at Amazon Germany then. I'm not too fussed about the German case if it means I avoid any potential customs charges by ordering from Australia.

Watched this today after getting a copy from my local library and was surprised at how much I liked it! Certainly some heavy stuff when it comes to
[Show spoiler]Otto's multiple suicide attempts
, but ultimately very well-done and well-acted. I'll have to add it to my collection!

A Man called Otto had a budget of $50 million dollars and box office sells of $112.6 million dollars. This movie should have received a native 4K Blu-ray release but did not. I like many Tom Hanks movies that he has made over the years.

Normally I very rarely post comments about standard Blu-ray releases, and the only reason I am making this post is that I ran into a major issue with the Blu-ray rental that happen to be in perfect condition with no scratches and very clean surface. The Blu-ray rental looked brand new, and I even when wiping the surface clean a second time after I ran into some issues. Something happened in the stamping process that caused around 30 minutes to be unplayable because of an error in the stamping process for a BD-50 1080P Blu-ray disc. Several times during the movie the disc froze and the Blu-ray player had to jump ahead. Never in my entire life have I seen a Blu-ray disc with so many bad blocks where around 30 minutes of the movie was unwatchable. The worse BD-100 disc I seen was only around 30 seconds of playback problems (and that only happen once), and this movie is a standard BD-50 disc that is much easier to make. Blu-ray discs have been around for 17 years, and standard Blu-ray discs have had flawless playback over the many years because of excellent stamping quality, however the number of bad blocks in the Blu-ray I received was so many that one might think that someone at the optical disc factory did not like the movie for some reason and created one bad disc or a batch of bad discs, either that or the stamping process quality control has become so poorly for some Blu-ray discs. I will try another Blu-ray rental of the same title, and maybe this issue was isolated to only one Blu-ray disc and not an entire batch. I was just surprised that I am seeing this issue in the year 2023 with so many bad blocks equaling around 30 minutes when I have never seen anything like this in my entire life.

The good news, the replacement Blu-ray rental worked perfectly fine with no issues. Therefore, this appears to have been a problem with only one defective BD-50 Blu-ray disc in the stamping process and not an entire batch. A Man called Otto has an interesting storyline, this movie was enjoyable to watch.
