Not really, the Arrow's got a FiM encode basically perfection. No need to grab this unless you don't care about that or just want it for completion sake.

Even on the older, softer master you could see the superior encoding on the Arrow 1080p BD compared to the Criterion 1080p BD:

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?d1=16...2&a=1&go=1&l=1

But you could only go so far with that master. In 4K the difference will be significantly greater. I expect a beatdown similar to the beating the Studio Canal UHD of Mulholland Dr. gave the Criterion UHD:

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?d1=16...0&a=1&go=1&l=1

Probably even bigger, considering Arrow always encode to perfection, unlike Studio Canal.

Someone doesn't realize FIM encoded the SC of Mulholland Drive

Beatdown? I have never seen the SC of Mulholland Dr in motion as I only own the Criterion UHD. Unless the caps do not show the proper differences between the 2, the level of detail and grain look the same to me. I can only notice that the SC looks a little bit brighter. To me, the SC looks better in the darker scenes, wheras I think the Criterion looks better in the brighter scenes. Here is an example (with focus on the light):

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&...181909&i=2&l=0

I would never say anything negative about FIM. They are THE BEST. But to my eyes I just don't see the differences with MD others like to talk about. Just being honest here, only going by the caps. If others can testify that the differences look greater in motion, then I cannot challenge that obviously

Not everyone will notice but those caps clearly show superior encoding on SC. The Criterion is smeary in spots where there should be grain, and the grain is overall better defined in the SC.

This. Not only does FiM typically stand head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to their work product, but they do it reliably and consistently, on just about everything they touch. When you see FiM’s involvement in a release, the one thing you don’t have to be concerned about is the encode. Lousy encodes have ruined scores and scores of what would otherwise have been solid releases, which is especially frustrating when you can clearly see an obviously great underlying new scan. Many folks will wisely wait for, and/or pay extra to import, a specific release of a title that’s been encoded by FiM, as opposed to a similarly produced release of the same title that’s been encoded by “just about anyone else”. 4k uhd is likely the last bite at the apple for the vast majority titles on home video (that are lucky enough to have even gotten that far). That makes an FiM-encoded 4k release a no-brainer, nearly every time. Ymmv.

That's good to know! I dig Videodrome though it's not my favorite Cronenberg. I just probably would have waited rather than import. But I don't plan on double dipping

Arrow's also has the theatrical cut and Criterion's won't (I actually predicted this before this announcement)

I know a lot of you prefer the unrated cut but it's still good the theatrical cut was included on Arrow's release for completion sake

Holy Hell yes, this!!! Pronto!!! CC can always release them in 4k afterward, with gross color timing and a dodgy encode. It never pays to be a day late and a dollar short.

I wish Arrow included the TV cut in full instead of the theatrical. That’s my only complaint with their excellent set.
