lol- I have another account but I forgot the login because it had been so long- the only reason I even previously had an account was to check in on The Abyss Blu-ray-
I was checking out the closed thread that talked about the sehdv2.0 and in there they talk about a new scan and I just don't see it in the PVOD version, it looks nearly exactly like the HDTV version but maybe more DNR. I'm not sure what is wrong with that Twitter account but it sounds like you might have some issues. Last edited by Just_Delightful; 12-11-2023 at 11:46 PM. |

Some caps I took personally linked below. I also viewed this on my Viewsonic XG321U monitor with MADVR for tonemapping as well as on my JVC RS3100 with Lumagen video processor for tonemapping and thought it looked absolutely fantastic. It is not too dark, and SDR screenshots or someone with a poor tonemapping solution (or misconfigured) are always the ones yelling the loudest. To each their own, but I'm happy and can't wait for the disc. Back to yalls normally scheduled arguing and bickering.

His point is they're not going to argue with his tastes, even if they personally feel that his tastes are working against the films at this point. Which means he's able to do whatever damage he sees fit without anybody interfering; even the professionals around him essentially have no say or input.

Guys, I know this is hard to comprehend...but the whole of Aliens and The Abyss were never pink, brown and extremely light blue when shown originally. Those LaserDisc NSTC transfers are distortions of your mental image.

I just skimmed through it on my LG83C1 in HDR so I don't have to deal with any potential tone mapping interpretations- and some shots look ok but overall it's too dark and the actors look sick due to the teal color grading.
The color grading issues from the HDTV version are still still there. Hopefully the team behind The Abyss: SEHD v2.0 will work on this too. For me, this is unwatchable, i'll go with SEHD v2.0 until something better comes along. Quote:

I'm definitely going to miss all the threads speculating when The Abyss was coming out.

Any shot near the moon pool and at various locations throughout Deepcore is (and has pretty much always been to one degree or another) some gradation of teal. There are also plenty of locations throughout the film that aren’t. Bud’s introduction isn’t teal at all, for example. Also, going after The Abyss for looking teal is a bit like taking issue with the last 15 minutes of Titanic looking blue. It is what it is.

There are "professionals" in every field who have no idea what they are doing. Just read the news and that will be apparent. Sure some do, but some also don't.

The bridge and the descent to the rig are really bad-
Everyone looks sick due to the color grading. I would def be interested in seeing screens of that from someone who thinks they have a qualified setup to provide those. |

I AM still hoping they’ll fix the audio issues (which I’ve detailed in the Abyss theatrical screening thread) before the disc come out (supposedly they’re being investigated). But I consider this an upgrade over what I made in 2018. Shrug. |
