I love Barry Lyndon as well.

I can see why some don't like it, with its distasteful protagonist.

In a Warner Chat they said they had no current plans for a Blu-ray Barry Lyndon release.

Very sad.

I've been waiting so long for it. It never even got a re-release with the Kubrick dvd boxset in '08. I quickly sold it because I bought a blu-ray player. Leon Vitali plays the young Lord Bullington who was also the mysterious man in the "red cloak" in EWS.

Put me down for another one who can't wait for Ben-Hur. I think it's coming next year. At least that's been the rumor.

Maybe I missed it, but I don't think there was ever any official announcement or even insider rumor that a box set was being released on Blu-ray. At best, I think that was simply hopeful fan speculation. There's no reason not to buy the currently-available Kubrick BDs. They're all excellent and most are reasonably priced.

Indeed. If you are not not buying these discs simply because they lack a cheap cardboard "shell" to go around them, then you are missing a beautiful forest for a one lousy tree!

Of course, I wish that Lolita and especially my beloved Barry Lyndon were available on Blu, but again that is hardly a reason to avoid the other films! When (and if) they become available, then like me you can simply add them to your shelf!

The documentary disc in the DVD boxed set was certainly very good, but it seems silly to prioritze that over the films themselves. The bottom line is:

Do not wait! Buy Kubrick on Blu!

Like I said, the only reason I didn't buy them yet is because I was anticipating what I thought to be an inevitable boxset. I have the boxset on dvd, but I wanted to upgrade. Hearing the news about a boxset probably not happening I guess I'll have to get on the single releases.

Boo hoo!

I've purchased the discs separately (still don't have Eyes Wide Shut, yet... dang hurtin' wallet) and I love them. Really, just buy the Stanley Kubrick doc on DVD and you're set. The discs are cheap to buy but huge on quality. I love to look of Full Metal Jacket. The sound of The Shining is amazing. The utter bleakness of 2001...

I have some movies to watch!

Must resist urge to buy Eyes Wide Shut....

P.S. - Be sure to get the deluxe edition of Full Metal Jacket! It's really the only one with features.

Ya, I'm just the type of person that likes to get things as a total package as opposed to just singling things out. I guess that won't work in this case though.

I wasn't a huge fan of Lolita, but I wouldn't mind getting it on Blu-Ray because
1) Sue Lyon is hot in it
2) It's got Peter Sellers doing the "multiple character" thing (to an extent) that he did to perfection in Strangelove.

[QUOTE=sbjork;2208664]

Several Warner Bros. BDs had an advertisement for a Kubrick Collection, though it had no picture or artwork or anything like that.

A box set of the 5 films in the collection also released on DVD was eventually released in Japan. However, these films have since been released in America as stand-alone discs.

Unfortunately, not much Kubrick is on Blu yet. There are those 5 movies from the collection and Dr. Strangelove. That's it so far. I've got my fingers crossed for Paths of Glory though.

Yea but I can't seem to find Full Metal Jacket for a reasonable price. I'm looking for 14.99 or less

There are currently (Aug. 16th) 7 "Buy it Now" listings for Full Metal Jacket for 15 bucks or less. One listing for 12 dollars. Some are new never opened; some are used.

There are another 7, or so new and/or used "Auction" listings for FMJ for well below $15.00 some can be had for as little as 10 dollars.

I just bought 2001 and 2010. Yesah, 2001 is the only Kubrick one, but you know, had to collect the series.

Anyway, the 2001 BD is supperb. Excellent transfer. Probably the best you'll ever see. Space shots are simply amazing. Ship models are extremely sharp with detail, even the moon shots are awesome. Only problem is that due to the time the movie was made, pre-moon landing, we didn't have any outer space images of Earth. Therefore the matte painting, or whatever they used there, of Earth, is painfully obvious and detracts from an otherwise masterpiece of film making. It'd be sacriledge, but I wish they would digitally replace Earth with actual imagery that we have today.

The BD is also loaded with extras. All in 1080i/p. Several 20-40 minute documentaries of the making of, retrospects, etc. on the film. Great stuff.

+1

This is probably my favorite Blu-ray release! It really shows what the Blu-ray format can do and this being THE best sci-fi movie of all time it's a thrill to see it in such amazing quality.

Before I got my Vizio for x-mas, I rented 2001 on Blu from Netflix. I watched it on my 24" Sanyo. Even that was MAJORLY impressive! I now own the Blu. I'm getting. The next Stanley movie I buy will be Shining.

Wonder if Warner would ever consider using the Stanley Kubrick Archive as a source of extras if they want to release new BD of his films. Still wanna see all the films in the best quality possible and with the best supplements. Should be fitting for one of the greatest directors, a great collection of Blu-ray discs.
