FYI - Year One will also have DTS-HD MA audio, not TrueHD. The article here at Blu-ray.com has been updated.

Why is that fantastic news? In the other thread you said lossy is better than lossless and that the only difference you're hearing between the 2 lossless codecs is likely a difference in volume levels...

I said i prefer DTS rather than DOLBY, as for prefering lossy audio that only applied to the SPIDERMAN 2 superbit dvd which i said i prefer the lossy DTS track compared to the DOLBY blu-ray track. As for the volume levels if there is 2 soundtracks on a blu-ray that sound the same then i personally would play the louder track.

In that post you say the person is probably right in assuming you're liking one track due to the fact that it's louder than the other.

As for thinking that lossy DTS with the 16kHz rolloff is better than a lossless track... well I just can't seem to understand that one at all.

While I do favor DTS HD Master Audio, Spiderman 3 sounds phenominal with Dolby True HD. The detail, bass, and volume level where practically spot on perfect.

This was just for Sony so i don't think any of the other studios will be changing, although a few rumors say that Paramount are......

I gather that the execs from the other studios also reading blu-ray.com. Should keep an eye on upcoming releases to check their directions.

They should simply imitate some of the Asian releases such as Red Cliff Pt.1&2. There are Mandarin DTS HD-MA and DTHD.
That way, audiences can view the film in audio they prefer.
Isn't that why they were originally adverstising all the storage space for these discs anyway?

If they're going to use that much space for two redundant lossless audio tracks then they may as well just put ONE 24-bit uncompressed LPCM track on there and not have to worry about codec skeptics and blind fanboyism.

IMO, a single lossless audio tracks would do the job (provided it is the same mix).

Older receivers?
Dolby Digital then.

I think there has only been one blunder with this. And that's Kung Fu Hustle.
But other than that, I've been seeing Dolby Digital alongside LPCM releases.

The DTS MA track on Top Gun is better than the True HD but apparently the DTS track is from a different master.

Sony should go with DTS MA for people who have older receivers.

It is, one is 5.1 (DTHD), the other is 6.1 (DTS)

As it's been said, 640kbps DD is every "bit" the equal of core DTS, and offers things like Night Mode, and as I've seen on other threads, some people with older receivers have DD but not DTS. HDTVs will also accept a DD bitstream thru HDMI for those with no HTs at all.
