This worried me. I updated with my external connected before seeing this. But everything seems ok and I was able to launch a game installed on it. The update did not seem to take any longer that usual. I guess it just means you can't connect it to a PS4 that hasn't been updated.

I've got a new SSD for my PS4 on the way. I've been looking for the best way to move my game and save data onto the new drive. I see some methods that require that I back up these things on an external drive, but I'm not sure if I have anything big enough. A few thoughts occurred to me though.
I have an old 1 TB hard drive from my PC left over from when I switched it out for a 4 TB SSD. I'm sure it would be big enough to hold my PS4's material during the upgrade, but I need to reformat it. I can't seem to do so when it's in the PC's second HD spot because the PC insists on booting Windows from the old hard drive even when I distinctly tell it to use the SSD instead. I can't seem to do it when it's attached by a SATA-->USB cable either, though that might be because it's partitioned. I have a few other tools in the house: one of which is my original PS4; the upgrade is intended for my slim PS4 which I've been using for a couple years now. The thought occurred to me to put the SSD into my original PS4, transfer from the slim to the old, then put the SSD into the slim. Would that work or does the slim need different firmware? I also heard that my Ubuntu/Linux laptop can format the extra hard drive, but that might require a cable I don't currently have. I also have a 256 GB USB stick, but that might not be big enough. |

I haven’t got a new SSD personally. But can’t you transfer the games you already have on your PS5 over to the new SSD once it’s installed? I didn’t think you had to back it up to an external then reinstall it all.
EDIT You know what I thought this was the PS5 thread! Last edited by Mavrick; 10-13-2021 at 05:22 PM. |

I did the deed!
Since I had 2 PS4s, I was able to use my old one to store my content using 'Transfer from another PS4'. I had a shed a few games to do so since the old one had a smaller hard drive but they were all disc games with no patches (version 1.00). I then put the new SSD in the slim PS4, used its Safe Mode to reinstall firmware downloaded from Sony, then did the Transfer Data operation the opposite way. Switching to an SSD wasn't a huge leap in load speed; I cued up the full 2112 Overture by Rush on Rock Band 4 before and after the upgrade, resulting in load times of 9.6 Seconds before and 6.7 seconds after. Still, it's helpful, and in any event the SSD is 2 TB, so it's bigger than the stock drive's 1 TB. |

I don't know if anyone can explain this to me, but I use my computer to charge PS4 controllers if I need to charge more than one for game night. In the past, there would be one color for charging and another color for charged. Now there's a third color (pink? salmon?) and it never changes. Empty or charged, all my controllers show this same color.

On mine, they just stopped lighting up while charging. This was several years ago. I never figured out what changed.

Click on your cart in the top right corner. A popup comes in from the side to confirm the purchase. Find the item you want removed. Underneath it is "Game and Legal Info" and to the right of that is a trash can icon. Click that.

Traded in my 9 year old PS3 and various other old video game stuff along with $72 for a PS4. Is this my best option for a BD remote for the PS4?
https://www.amazon.com/Mugast-Wirele...a-870071957506 Going to GameStop tomorrow before work to grab Spider-Man and see if I can find anything else to go with it. |

I think this one is probably better.

The Sims 4 is free, but I can't play it because I had downloaded it via PS Plus before and it won't let me play it without PS Plus. Is there a workaround for this? I can always just download for Xbox, if there's no other way around this.
