Default HT Issues - Please Help

I was having some issues with my sub and was told to re-run Adussey with the sub off and set manually. Now, things don't sound right. I have the calibration set to -8 on the sub but what should it be for my fronts and surrounds. My setup is in my signature.

To be more specific the level calibrations for the fronts, center and surrounds.

I have a similar setup. I calibrate manually by cycling the test tone through all of the speakers. I try to set them so the tone sounds the same coming from each of them, except the center speaker which, because all the dialog runs through it, I turn up a bit higher. I don't know what level my sub is set to though. I kept messing with it until it just sounded right.

You might try an inexpensive Radio Shack db meter to match levels.

I actually have the dialog running through all of the speakers, to me it sounds better than just the center.

What "issues" were you having with your sub? If it's properly connected then Audessy should calibrate everything without any problems.

If you redid Audessy with the sub disconnected, then your main speakers are now probably putting out more bass than necessary. Check the crossover values and make sure that your recievers crossover is set to around 80Hz.

I would turn the gain on your sub amp down, and the run Audyssey again. What issues were you having with your sub? After running Audyssey, make sure speakers are set to small, crossover at 80.

I was getting a loud "Clapping" like noise a couple of times during the second action sequence from The Incredible Hulk". Element Design advised to ensure nothing was loose underneath, I checked everyone is OK and to run Adyssey again with the Sub off then maunualy set it up. When I did that the Sub wouldn't work at all. I ran Adyssey again with the sub on, set the speakers to 80hz and the LPE to 120. Adyssey set the sub calibration to -15 so I put it to -8 but it still sounds off different than it did before I made the changes.

I have a feeling my calibrations for the speakers were different and want to get a feel for what people think or have theres set at.

You need to turn the gain down on your sub amp. It's too high, that's why your receiver is setting it to -15. Seems you're bottoming out your driver, that Hulk scene will do it.

Explain what you mean by different...

Not enough bass? Too much?
Dialogue clear/understandable?
Is it a change in sound quality, or just volume levels?

All that is on the back is:

volume - at 3/4
low pass filter - all the way up
phase - all the way down

which one?

You said it, "bottoming out the driver", that is what Element Design said this morning.

I seem to have enough bass

The dialoge seems to have a sligh scratching sound when people talk

The sound quality is what I mentioned above and the volume levels did change but I think I got that worked out. I just don't know if they are to high which is causing the scratching noise.

So I guess the higher lower the number in the negative the worse it gets. I tried putting the calibration level back at -15 which is what Adyssey original put it at and it is not as bad but it is still happening.

Did you turn the amp on the sub down to around 9-10 o'clock?

How do you send dialog to all speakers except on an "all channel" setting? Are you set to send all audio to all of your speakers rather than discreet multi-channel audio?

Dude, you need to turn down the gain on the damn sub and at that point re-run Audyssey or manually calibrate it with an SPL. Having it up at 3/4 is pretty crazy considering that sub. You want it at no more than 50%, honestly.

And yes, with negative #'s, the higher the #, the lower it is. It's just like in math.

I wondered this too. You're really missing the whole point of HT if you have all the audio sent out in a "all channel" stereo or mono setting.
