Seems on par with the promo stuff I'd seen for it. The red font just is what seems weird to me for some reason.

I haven't seen the movie, not big on the remakes, but if the US had a standard then I'd have bought it just to support good decisions lol

the font is supposed to represent how loud and obnoxious stitch is.

4K steelbook only in the US (and no 4K in Canada) is all too predictable for new Disney family releases at this point, regardless of the box office success of the movie in question. At least there will be standard versions in some European countries.

What's odd is that the 2002 Lilo and Stitch 4K was standard only, but did not get released in Europe at all. But no telling what Disney's release plan will be for animated 4K catalogue titles going forward, as there has been only one such release since the 4K of Snow White.

Never mind family, just Disney branded. As I said earlier it's been this way for ages. For some reason USA distributors are pushing steelbooks more and more.

It was odd but at the same time their 3 Disney branded catelogue releases in 2023 were available in standard cases as well despite new releases going away from that.

And yeah, it is hard to say since sadly they don't seem interested in releasing Disney branded catelogue releases, just 20th and Touchstone. By the time Snow White's release is two years old there will most likely have only been 3 Disney branded catelogue releases and they will have been tie ins.

Happy that Stitch is getting a 4k release! Even if it is steelbook only. Loved the movie.

Will this be sold everywhere like on Amazon? I hate store exclusives like how Wish 4k was just sold at Walmart, and once that sold out you can't buy it anymore except for huge markups from scalpers on ebay.

This thing makes a Billion in the Box Office and they can't even be arsed to release a standard physical edition on UHD? Especially for the US? Lousy.

Well, so did Inside Out 2 and Moana 2. But yeah. Pushing overpriced steels on people who want a 4k.

If one is provided I'm likely to import the standard edition.

I'd be a touch willing to entertain it if the art was remotely good, and it's not.

And not only that, but overpriced steels with vastly inferior cover art. It really is Disney saying "how bad do you REALLY want this?"

After two gorgeous steelbook designs like Mufasa and Snow White, they go and release that eyesore (which matches the movie, in my opinion) for their most successful premiere. And let’s not even start on how the animated version (which should be prioritized, honestly) only gets a 4K release in the US, while the live action gets 4K everywhere. The major studios, as always, have no clue what they’re doing. And as usual with this Disney–Sony partnership, the steelbook is US-only. At least collectors can still import the UK amaray. Bit by bit, they’re killing the joy of collecting movies.

That's not going to happen in a way that favors consumers. Disney got out of distributing their own movies. They aren't going to rebuild that process. Without Sony, they probably would stop releasing movies on disc.

Yeah we're likely stuck with Sony releasing their movies this way until they arbitrarily decide to stop making discs too.

Getting the international standard versions ends up being just a couple of dollars cheaper than getting the domestic steelbook though.

If the Sony deal ended and they didn't renew, they'd just find somebody else. Maybe Universal would jump on.

Disney losing their physical media distribution in North America without SONY attempting to distribute them would be almost like with Australia back in 2023

I highly doubt that Universal would handle the distribution rights for newer Disney titles if the SONY partnership expired.

[Show spoiler]

I saw that Hannah Waddingham is in this and got all excited, but then I went to IMDb and saw this photo
[Show spoiler]of "her"
(possible spoiler):

[Show spoiler]

Also, they did Tia Carrere dirty in the marketing. She's not even in the credit block (I haven't seen either version of the film, but I'm assuming her role is substantial) and there's only one small image of her caught in a zany expression.

I guess I should see this, but I have to start with the original and I don't really want the censored 4K UHD with all the missing extras. I'll probably cave and pick up one of the uncensored Blu-rays and then the standard UK release of this film.

If you haven't seen either version, there's no reason to seek out the 'uncensored' version of the animated original and pay a lot more just to have it, rather than go with the 4K. It's a minor change that doesn't matter or alter the viewing.

As for her role, if you want a small spoiler,
[Show spoiler]she's barely in it. Her character bookends the movie.
