Thanks for the advice. What would you recommend for the receiver? I want one that is going to be able to handle lossless audio for Blu-Ray.

Well first thing these guys are gonna ask is what is your budget. For me advise i could give you is audition recievers as different brands sound different.

Probably around $500ish for the budget. Most likely will be looking around on ebay once I have a better idea of what I'm looking for.

As Lestat said , You should go audition things first to see what you like . Not only do receivers sound different , But speakers do to as well .

Okay. As far as brands go are there any to stay away from or to keep an eye out for? I'm not that familiar with audio equipment

Denon ~ Yamaha ~ Pioneer are all good receivers .
Polk & Energy & Infinity & Klipsh are good speakers for starting out !

I have three Pioneer receivers (including an Elite) and have been happy with them. Two have MCACC (Pioneer's name for auto-calibration). That helps a lot with setup. I've always felt like I get a lot of bang for my buck (features & quality) with Pioneer receivers.
