Default Adapted for the Screen Vs. Original Films

What's your take on this? Do you like one versus the other? Which one do you think takes more skill for the writer, director, and production team to pull off? IMO, I think there's pros and cons for both. But, lately, we're seeing more adapted films from novels, plays, etc. While it can be argued that all films are a variation of certain elements, I still think originality is something lost and we need to go back to it. Adapting a novel or other other work is good but it shouldn't be the focal point of cinema that we see so much now IMO.

Anyway you look at it, a movie is just another form of "telling stories". IMO, they are all art and thus equal in difficulty.
