It will be interesting to see if they release a pressed version of the 100GB disc (and compatibility etc).

TL51 is supposed to be a pressed disc, right? These are recordable discs.

TL51 can't be recordable since they can hardly record to a SL at 1x on HD DVD...

The article clearly explains the flexibility of this new technology as well as HITACHI's plans to commercialize it in 2009.

but it will pointless if current 1st and 2nd gen BD players are not able to read them same as TL51 with current 1st, 2nd and 3rd gen hd-dvd players but at least in the their case there is a possibility.

200gb disk was just created as a prototype and announced so people could have a general idea how powerful the blu-ray format is. However I'm pretty sure you would have to purchase a new player to read something with that many layers.

HD-DVD announces 50gb HD-DVD disks for release in 2008, and now two blu-ray supporters announce 100gb as if they were trying to say "that was a cute gesture" to the HD-DVD community.

HAHA.. This war is so much fun, it is the highlight of my days.

I hope BDA will finalise this disc soon, well at least preliminary specs first.

and remember TL51 is ROM only, aka can't write/store data, while this bd100 can. the difference is only a year. maybe they launch late 2008, and we have 100gb early 2009

BD 100's will be able to be read from current players with a firmware upgrade. Hitachi has stated this already. They haven't fully gotten all the bugs out yet, but will soon. The BD-200's they are confident will also be able to be read with a firmware upgrade, though they haven't 100% verified this.

of course they're going to say it will be compatible with current gen players with a FW upgrade, they want to make early adopters feel good about their purchase.

Would you mind providing a direct link? I don't want to have to wade through all the muck over there.
