Need advice on a Panny Plasma please

There is a thing called Image Retention (mostly mistaken as burn in)...which might be noticeable on any new plasma at the beginning...but once your TV warms up over time, it will go away. Its not even obvious to begin with.

I would highly recommend a Panasonic plasma to anyone, especially your parents, they will love you! I wanted to get a 42" X1 for the bedroom, but the wife says no.

I have the TC-P42c1 and love it.

It is 720p as well ... bluray looks great on it. sports look fantastic also.

When I turn something off ... you can usually see a slight print of the last screen image, but it is gone soon after. I just run the black screen with white scrollbar every couple weeks to help it out if needed.

Blu-Ray's look marvelous on 720p displays and as long as you're not sitting two feet from the screen, pretty much indistinguishable from a 1080p display.

I have the 42 inch PX80U. Awesome sets, aren't they? I actually think they're better than the X1's from this year to be honest with. The X14 (Sam's version. Same panel.) I bought to replace the PX80U has odd screen door effect on certain areas of the screen and strange diagonal lines when it's in reflecting light from say, a lamp. Very odd. I've also seen this on the X1 in store at places like Sears. I'm returning it. I'll likely just wait til next years models are released if I feel the need to upgrade. The PX80U is a workhorse of a set, I love it. It also seems...sturdier...than the new models, which look and feel kind of lightweight by comparison. But that's probably just me.

I just carried back a 50" inch panny X1 to Sears because it had a cracked screen. It was the only model they had left and the only place in town that had one in stock. My situation is similar to yours, it was suppose to be a gift for my grandparent's anniversary. I took it as a sign to step up to the next model up, especially when seeing it side by side with a Samsung plasma in the same class. The Samsung was 720p as well but didn't display noticable artifacts around lettering like the X1 but the color accuracy was about the same. I've always admired the Panasonic plasmas as well as their customer service, so I went with it anyways. I'm curious if someone knows the differences in the C1 and X1 as well. I know that Sam's club and Cosco usually carry "exclusive models" but are the same display as other stores, except one may be assembled in Mexico instead of China or one may be a refurbished model.

I'd love to get them a G10 but i seriously doubt they will benefit from it being as they don't want to fool with a BD player.. It'll be hard enough convincing them to upgrade to HD cable. They also sit about 15 feet from the TV and that 32" LCD looks tiny. A 50" 720p plasma should be all they'll ever need. I really hate to go with Samsung, given thier shitty customer service but the Sammy seemed to have the Panny beat in the entry level plasmas from a side by side comparison. I guess I'll be hunting around the next few days until the refund clears.

After spending time in front of a Pioneer plasma, everything I was looking at today seemed lacking ...now that was snobbish of me to say.
