Knocked Up did very well, and that shows the importance of Day and Date releases (HD DVD had two, and we had zero for the week) In addition, the sale in BM stores is what matter. Next Friday we should be around 80%. The important "Year to date" and "Since Inception" numbers did not move! Some people are reporting short supplies of FF2. No way! all of the South Florida stores have them in abundance with promotional displays everywhere

Knocked-up did surprise me. Comedies don't usually do well with the HD crowd - not a lot of eye candy there... unless birthing scenes are your thing.

An important thing to note is that even with a strong performance, they still couldn't win the week. Having the top selling disc means little if nothing is selling that week.

WB will not go HD-DVD exclusive, there is no trend showing HD-DVD gaining momentum (and they still haven't won a week yet). They would have to take the lead over Blu for months in a row to show any kind of momentum for HD-DVD and that my friend is just not going to happen... ever.
There was a time when a big movie like that wouldn't have even registered on the Nielsen chart. There HD-DVD side was simply too small. That alone shows you that the HD-DVD side is growing(Maybe even faster than the Blu-ray side)

Now we see a single movie helping the HD-DVD side almost win a week. Imagine what would happen if/when they really start pumping out movies. Now I’m not saying that the movie wouldn’t have sold better on Blu-ray over a longer period of time but I do think that sales numbers would be big enough to get the attention of companies like WB. It may show that HD-DVD still has life in it.

This is the worst thing that could happen now when companies like WB are considering going Blu-ray exclusive because of the previous strength and sales numbers.

i think youre th eone underestimating knocked up. This film is tailor made for the 360 addons...and id have to believe that the zealots at avms would buy it just to buy it as well......this is a big big title, and it only sold 15k.....superbad will sell 50k, count it...its not "comedy" its how good the title is, imo and knocked up should have sold more than 15k, imo.

My distributor is very big and they got all of their FF4-2 very late to the point my rental stores will be getting it next week.

What's intresting is all the catalog titles have had no problems what so ever. It's only the boxoffice movies it seems that Fox is running behind getting out I guess (28 Weeks Later is also being delayed one week to my stores).

I agree with this point. I thought Knocked Up would sell more. I didn't think HD DVD's percentage would be any bigger than it was, but I thought more units would be sold.

But again it registered the number one spot because the month of Sept saw the smallest amount of movies all year. The only title that was released that month that was worth a spit was Knocked Up. Don't you think it's werid to have the movie 300 so high for the past two months. Well no not really....that was the last big action title released on BR. What what happens with FF4 2.....you'll be surprised I think.

There has been nothing released by BR for the month of Sept that can compare to Blades Of Glory, Knocked Up, and Next. All of those were exclusive to HD. Again why people are suprised from last week is beyond me. I've been saying it all week, last week was going to be bad because of the lack of titles for the past month. It's been building up to those number for a while now.

And people I know say I am pessimist, my response is I am just being realistic. I don't think it will be as bad as you think. There are a lot of big titles coming exclusively to Blu-ray and just a couple big titles that are exclusive to HD DVD.

after seeing these numbers....... where knocked up and next made the 63% blu ray advantage reduced to 56%...... do you guys honestly believe that Transformer will at the very least do twice as much..... looking at last weeks sales numbers that someone posted, it seems that knocked up did between 14-16K. Transformers will eclipse that. With nothing to go against it........ HD Dvd will win that week hands down...

All things considered, I do believe that that will be the last week they every win (with the Bourne week being close, but since we have harry potter and residual Superbad and Pirates sales we should still pull it off)

Blubaru- you do understand that Blu-ray standalone players are now equalling or outselling HD DVD standalone players, right? And that the gap between the total number of devices able to play Blu-ray versus HD DVD is growing, much to Blu-ray's favor? Last I read, we were up from 5:1 to 6:1.

The only momentum HD DVD has is in press releases and FUD articles.

I think many were over optimistic, and underestimating this title. I'm not too surprised by the numbers, I expected less than 60% given the strength of this title and the lack of anything on the Blue side.

Look at the bright side, next week is going to be a Blu-Ray blow out. 70% I think might even be conservative.

I would be really curious to find out the exact number of discs sold last week. I'm not sure why the numbers are kept secret. It would clarify a lot of questions and eliminate some speculation.

I?d be highly surprised if Blu-ray gets over 70-75% again this year or if it will ever get over that mark again. Right now all of the momentum seems to be with the HD-DVD side and I don?t see any fox titles changing that. I also wouldn?t be surprised to see WB considering going HD exclusive in light of the recent HD-DVD momentum

It?s going to be very sad if Blu-ray loses this war.
Think you need a reality check mate.

This week nothing sold, even Knocked Up has sold a mediocre number, hence the yearly numbers didn't budge.

I think what most people are missing is that not only will Transformers win the week of the 16th. I fear they will win the 23rd also. I'm not sure Meet the Robinsons will dethrone Transformers. So we need to anticipate 2 straight losses for BD and possibly even a backwards movement in the YTD stats. It won't be until the 30th that Spider-Man kicks it's butt!

Isn't that exactly why the numbers are held back?
