Every sale of a BD is a sale that counts. I don't think that the US is the only country that is going to be the deciding factor, even though they don't show up in the rankings. Just a question though, are there any other rankings like the Nielsens in other countries? It would be interesting to see.
Half of all videos are sold in the US, and it's the studios' home turf

that's why HD DVD is priced so much more outside the US, they concentrate their efforts here

I am going to predict a 55:45 Blu Victory next week. I have no doubt that Transformers will be big, but with the effect of the bogos and deals acting on our larger base, I just don't think it will be big enough to single-handedly give them the win.

As an amusing side note I was reading on "another forum" how some of the HD guys bought a lot of the cheap blu-rays because they were too cheap to pass up. I lol'd a little.

Default Hehe. Next week is with transformers

I say about 56:44 for Blu next week. Glad to see Blu hit hard this week. Transformers will hit hard but I think the sales from the last 2 weeks will continue because of the larger audience (PS3 owners) The BOGO will do some damage too, Hopefully alot to bring the victory beyond 60.

Definately the most anticipated week of the year.
The sales were everywhere pretty much and the BB I went into was completely depleted on the BD side as if it had been robbed. The HD-DVD side was flush with product as if they had just put it out for display... or as if no one had bought any. I'm guessing the BD sales are way better than you think.

I put the odds at 65% BD victory next week.

I have heard no huge sales for the Transformers movie in HD, and all the ads I've seen mention only the DVD and only show the HD format on screen, so I doubt it will have as big an impact as they were hoping, although it will definitely have something. Either way, the BOGO is going to more than make up for it. I still think it will be higher than 60/40.

They are still in business so it has little impact for now. The bankruptcy just allows for debt restructing but doesn't put them out of business yet. They'll close some stores though for sure.

Funniest thing about that Home Media Mag this week...

They actually have a 2-page add for White Noise 2. No not the one that was god-awful with Michael Keaton, the one that was probably even more god-awful without Michael Keaton. Why even waste time advertising something like that?

I like that thought LynxFX. All I want for next week is 51-49 Blu!

Oh my god, they are releasing a 2nd one? The first was horrible! Might as well flush the money they spend making this direct-to-DVD down the toilet.

Talking Folks, get ready to see a few weeks with Blu-ray in the >80% range!

As we've all seen, these numbers fluctuate from week to week. But one thing is clear: Blu-ray is leading and its strength is growing.

I know that we've all looked forward to this quarter because we can't wait to get some of the new blockbusters and classic films on BD.

The number of titles coming from now till the end of the year is heavily in Blu's favor (~2:1).

There are several factors in play that will not only add to our lead, but also increase the momentum.
  • We know that new releases are where the most sales volume is coming from. Look at 300 or Casino Royale. On 300 (dual format) Blu beat DUD by ~2:1, but on our exclusives (CR) that's where we really pull ahead.

We already have FF:SS. On the way are Spiderman 3, Pirates 3, Ratatouille, Die Hard 4, The Simpsons, Superbad, and Hairspray (short-time exclusive).
  • The base sales of Blu-ray are much stronger than HD.
  • The carryover effect of each of these new releases is CUMULATIVE.
  • The week of 10/30 (SM3) will still have Sillver Surfer carryover
  • The week of 11/6 (Rat & Cars) will have carryover from SM3 and SS
  • The week of 11/20 (Die Hard 4) will have carryover from Silver Surfer, SM3, Rat and Cars. And so forth . . .
  • There is the impact of the PS3 price drop next month and new BD players and lower BD player prices. This will bring more BD owners into the mix.
  • The number and popularity of our new releases will also pull in more people

This summer's PS3 price drop had some impact. I am amazed at the number of POTC 1 and 2 sold during the Disney B1G1F sale. Also look at the ranking of Casino Royale in this week's Neilsen Numbers. Does this mean there are a lot of new Blu-ray owners? Or could it be that the sleeping giant of PS3 owners who initially didn't care about Blu-ray has been awakened?

Get ready for a wild ride, and to see the HD DVD boys whining!

I think for the most part the general BR buying public didn't know about the sale till Monday/Tuesday. So this could be more good news but by a slimmer margin.

I guess we'll all find out on Friday 10/26.
In the meantime, lets all go out this weekend a pick up a couple more Blu just in case.
I'd suggest the bulk of Sunday orders were on Amazon, which would only have been shipped Monday onwards.

I sure hope you are right, but I'm going to cautiously predict a squeeker, with Blu-ray edging HD DVD 53:47.

...but 60/40 would be huge...HUGE

a big shout out to Fox, they came through huge. they saturated this month with alot of high quality titles. because of them transformers has alot to overcome. the more good catalog titles we have that aren't shown in the top 10 or 20 help alot also.
