His review didn't seem that horrible, the score was slightly harsh, from his description, I'd say it deserved more like 3/5 than 2/5, but I can't say really until I get the set myself. Kinda mean to say because someone doesn't give a blu-ray a perfect score that he must be an HD-DVD fan. lol Then again, if I watch Spiderman 1 and it is like perfection, then I might change my mind. lol
(And I do kinda agree about Transformers, had a couple of not so hot scenes, have the HD-DVD playing at work. Hate the 1080i player though and really really wish I coulda heard it on Blu-ray for a PCM track lol) Edit : Nevermind, Just read his review of Transformers, he is an HD-DVD fan. lol Last edited by Palanthian; 10-19-2007 at 11:37 PM. |

Just got the set. I put in Spidey 1 and checked a few scenes. Picture quality was a 3.75/4.0 in my book. Then I put in Spidey 3 and watched the whole thing. This is a reference disc folks! 5.0 Picture quality (on my 65").
Don't know why Spidey 3 gets so much hate. Each time I see it I like it more. Rami did a great job on these films. His style is prevalent though out. |

http://www.dvdfile.com/index.php?opt...=6337&Itemid=3 Video: "Sony has provided all three films using AVC (MPEG-4) video compression at extremely high average bit-rates (sort of a “super bit” approach with Blu-ray Disc if you will… allowing the bit-rate to ride as high as is needed to avoid virtually any image degradation of any kind). Disney and Sony routinely master their Blu-ray Discs this way and (though direct a/b comparisons with lower bit-rate compression is rarely possible) the results appear to benefit from this greater care if we consider that many of their discs represent the best looking 1080p high-definition software available regardless of media type. These films are stunningly film-like, preserve even the finest layer of delicate film-grain, and lack any apparent compression signature or mastering-related artifact (no edge halos). In the case of these three Spider-Man films the source material lacks the ultra-sharp “snap” of the very best dazzling HD content that I’ve seen (such as Seven Years in Tibet). But the preservation of ultra-fine film-grain in key scenes demonstrates that no high-frequency filtering or “roll off” has been applied as is sometimes the case with HD content compressed with bandwidth or bit-bucket limitations in mind (Sony has also stated that they are applying no additional filtering to any of their high-definition Blu-ray Disc masters). The first film is presented (very slightly letterboxed) in its original 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The latter two films are presented in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio. The color palette of all three films is skewed toward warm yellow/greens and contrast is often intentionally accentuated to give scenes added pop. Artistic choices like this are cinematic devices that are part of a film’s creative style and shouldn’t be misinterpreted as faults with image accuracy. The same is true for the slightly softened look to some scenes that may be an attempt to blend the CGI and live-action to make the images seem more cohesive. I carefully evaluated all three film on both 720p and 1080p projection systems and was surprised to find some of my original expectations proved wrong. My biggest and most pleasing surprise was to discover that the first film had, in my opinion, the best image quality of the three; it was utterly film-like with lots of image depth. The color saturation and clean, artifact-free images of all three films are mesmerizing. But for me, the picture presentation of the first film was a cut above. I found this intriguing not only because the first film is my favorite of the series, but also because the first film always had a murky, muddy appearance on standard-definition DVD (the second film’s DVD presentation looks better). No studio should ever do more than provide you with the most accurate possible representation of the artist’s intended look of the film. And Sony has done exactly that in this Blu-ray Disc presentations." Audio: Surprise THE PCM SOUNDTRACK IS BETTER THAN DOLBYTHD. "the PCM uncompressed 5.1 track to the Dolby TrueHD track on the third disc (which contains both types of lossless audio), despite the theory that the two audio tracks should sound identical, the PCM track was audibly superior to the TrueHD and I didn’t have to struggle to hear the difference… it was obvious. The PCM track was more robust, textured, realistic, and also seemed louder (I level-compensated when comparing to make sure I wasn’t being biased by mere level differences). " SO NOW MY FRIENDS are you still hesitating in buying THE TRILOGY of SPIDERMAN. IM LOOKING FOR THE BLU-BOX next week and waiting them on higher Temperature |

http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=31121 Video: "Video: Presented in its theatrical aspect ratio of 2.39:1 and encoded using Sony's preferred AVC video codec, Spider-Man 3 is the sort of reference quality disc you can grab off the shelf to show off just how spectacular high definition video can look. Fine detail is consistently dazzling throughout, particularly in any shot with the Sandman; the distinctness and clarity make it seem as if each individual grain of sand is clearly rendered. I found myself continually impressed by the tremendous level of detail, depth, and dimensionality that are constantly on display. The encoding is remarkably adept as well, something I'd imagine would have to have been a challenge considering that one of its main characters consists of millions of fine particles that must've been a nightmare to compress. There's no trace of edge enhancement, and although film grain remains tight and unintrusive throughout, I didn't spot any sign that its grain had been digitally smoothened away either. Spider-Man 3 has a consistently film-like appearance to it from start to finish." Audio part is unbelievable |

Sounds to me like a few sites that favor HD DVD are trying to make this sound less than desireable. There will probably be a few reviews of Pirates 3 saying the PQ sucks too.

Concur. I didn't see anything wrong with any of the discs, although I didn't watch all of them end-to-end. I also enjoyed the main menu on the discs and the featurettes on the 2nd disk that came with SM3.

I'm actually pretty impressed by the PQ of "1". I was expecting to be disappointed like some of the reviews I've read. The only thing I've noticed is the slight bit of grain but for the most part I can ignore it. The other thing is the contrast in the skin tones is a little too hot. You can notice it in the hallway fight scene when Flash attacks Peter. Other than that I'm pretty impressed. It's the best it's ever looked and sounded.

I was also a little dissapointed, I thought Fantastic 4 rise of the silver surfer looked better than Spiderman 3 or any of the Spidermans for that matter. That having been said they still look pretty nice. Although Nov. 10th I am getting my TV proffessionally callibrated so that might make the difference.

Watched it tonight and felt like i was watching a movie in high definition, so all is well here.
Then again, I have bad eyes, so anything on Blu looks new to me. ![]() Best way to appreciate it? Go buy and SD DVD. I spent last week watching Transformers 3 times, upscaled on my PS3. Decent, but still not hi def. Made me appreciate this Spidey viewing a WHOLE lot more. ![]() |
